If you can still bet, just with limits (restricted account)

You may find that your Betfred account has been restricted. Restrictions can come in the form of the following:

• Being unable to withdraw funds from your account during the investigation. Your balance will remain and is safe.
• You may notice that restrictions on your betting sessions have been applied. These may include the removal of promotions, bet and deposit limits, etc.
• The loss of promotions is known as “gubbing” in UK betting slang; it’s the term that is used to describe the action bookmakers take against unprofitable or undesirable accounts.

Most often, any restrictions applied to your account can be resolved by providing KYC documents. By law, UKGC-licensed bookmakers must verify customers’ identities before allowing them to bet and withdraw funds.

You must provide official documentation, including a photo ID and proof of address (within 3 months). Once these are provided, your account restrictions will typically be lifted, unless you’ve violated any other T&Cs.

If you cannot log in at all (suspended or blocked account)

Had your Betfred account blocked? Want to get it back? You’ll need to have a good argument to be able to get it back, but you can try.

• Read the communication (usually an email) that has been sent to you outlining the decision.
• Use the ‘Complaints Procedure’ Betfred has, and follow the five-step process.

How long does it take to get resolved?

Getting your Betfred account resolved can take time, depending on the issue(s) that triggered the initial investigation and outcome.

If your account has been closed, it’s not a decision that the bookie has taken lightly. You’ve likely violated many of the T&Cs in place, including potentially engaging in “prohibited practices”.

Can I withdraw my money?

If your Betfred account is closed by you, the bookmaker will attempt to return your balance to you. They will also honour unsettled bets that are still open. If your account has been blocked due to your financial situation (e.g., bankruptcy), the bookie will handle the funds and may transfer them to the appointed insolvency practitioner.

If your account has been closed because you engaged in illegal prohibited practices, Betfred is under no obligation to return money to you and can withhold all or part of the account balance for any other prohibited practice.

When the closure is permanent

If you’ve experienced a Betfred account closure, it’s usually something the bookmaker has considered strongly. It’s not a knee-jerk decision, as it usually involves engaging in prohibited practices and/or violating many of the other T&Cs.

You can appeal the decision, but this is rarely overturned without sufficient evidence of no untoward play. If your account is closed, you may not be told the specific reason(s), as the bookmaker isn’t obligated to explain them in detail.
