BetMGM Account Restricted or Suspended: Why It Happens and How to Fix

Why does BetMGM restrict or block accounts?

• You can only wager with one account; if you have multiple, you will be blocked from using the sportsbook.
• As per AML/source-of-funds regulations, your BetMGM account will be banned if you use third-party funds or business account funds.
• If found to be underage (17 or younger), your account will be blocked.
• Your account may be restricted or banned if you are found using a VPN to access the service.
• You may be banned if your betting behaviour is suspicious, such as following a specific pattern, including backing certain odds and markets to guarantee a profit, regardless of the result, or winning large amounts of profit with each bet.

BetMGM allows you to contact its customer support team to request a review of the ban. However, there is no guarantee that you’ll get your account back.

If you can still bet, just with limits (restricted account)

If you can still access your BetMGM account, you may notice you have been restricted in various ways. You can still use your account to place bets, but you might just not be able to use it to its full potential.

Among the potential restrictions faced and reasons why include:

• You may find that your maximum stake has been capped. Bookies do this to limit your chances of winning bigger amounts due to suspicious behaviour. Caps can range from as low as £1 to higher amounts.
• Deposit limits may have also been implemented for your account. You may only be able to deposit a much lower maximum amount than before, or you may find that the maximum is different daily, weekly, or monthly. You can set your own budgets using the tools offered at BetMGM, but they may have forced this one automatically.
• You may no longer be able to access promotions. Known as “gubbing”, this is the term used in British slang to describe a bookmaker restricting your account because they believe you’re an undesirable customer.
• The BetMGM account may be restricted because you haven’t completed KYC checks. It’s the easiest one to fix and is often the most common reason for restrictions. Simply upload the requested documents and wait for your identity to be verified to regain full access to your account.

If you cannot log in at all (suspended or blocked account)

If your BetMGM account is suspended, you can try to regain access if you believe it has been wrongly blocked.

• You’ll receive a message or email outlining your account has been suspended.
• Read it fully to understand why.
• Contact the customer support team for further assistance.

If it is due to verification issues, provide the required documentation (photo ID and proof of address). This may be enough to overturn the decision and allow you to continue wagering with the bookie. Again, no guarantees can be made, and it will depend on the reasoning for your account’s banning.

How long does it take to get resolved?

Can I withdraw my money?

If you have a withdrawal pending at the time of account closure, receiving funds can depend on several factors. BetMGM writes that the withdrawal can be cancelled if your account was closed for violating the T&Cs, and that it may also depend on the stage of the process.

If the balance isn’t released, you can escalate things further. Contact customer service in the first instance, but you can go to IBAS or the Gambling Commission for external help.

When the closure is permanent

If BetMGM decides to close your account, it is usually permanent and cannot be reversed.

The main instance in which this happens is due to a trading decision, such as repeatedly breaching the T&Cs, having more than one account, continuing to gamble when self-excluded, or using a VPN to bypass geolocation restrictions.

You can try to appeal the decision with the bookmaker’s customer support team, but this is usually a one-time thing and is very rarely overturned.

You may not always receive a detailed reason for account closure, as BetMGM is not obliged to give one.

To avoid getting your BetMGM account locked or blocked, avoid the following:
