Alex de Minaur may not be contending for titles as someone of his ranking would normally be expected to, but he continues to do what he does best: winning the matches he is expected to win. This steady effort is helping him achieve his goal of qualifying for the ATP Finals for a second consecutive season.

The world No. 7 comfortably defeated underdog Jurij Rodionov in the first round at ATP Vienna this week and will face another big underdog, local player Filip Misolic, in the second round, with a quarterfinal spot at stake. Currently No. 7 in the race, de Minaur faces pressure from Lorenzo Musetti and Félix Auger-Aliassime closing in behind him. Easy matchups like this and wins here will be crucial for him in this high-pressure crunch situation.

The 2024 ATP Vienna semifinalist, Alex de Minaur, has been an extremely consistent performer on indoor hard courts for several years and has carried that form into 2025. He has collected nine wins against just two losses on this surface in 2025, with his only previous indoor ATP event this year ending as runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz in Rotterdam.

After two unsuccessful attempts in 2022 and 2023, Filip Misolic finally opened his account in the main draw of ATP Vienna, his home event, by defeating clay-courter Camilo Ugo Carabelli this week. His most recent main-draw win at a tour-level event also came at home, in Kitzbühel in July, where he fell in the second round to Botic van de Zandschulp.

The Austrian has competed in a championship match on clay, but on non-clay surfaces, he has yet to reach a quarterfinal. His only previous second-round match at a tour-level event on a non-clay surface came on indoor hard courts in Stockholm last year, where he lost in straight sets to Gael Monfils.

Head-to-head: 0-0. Alex de Minaur is highly efficient against underdogs and lower-ranked players who cannot intimidate him with reputation, stature, or power. He is expected to handle this clash comfortably and continue his push for ATP Finals qualification.
