Eva Lys is having an Asian swing to remember as she extends her streak of first-round wins to eight tournaments. After coming through the qualifying rounds, she dispatched fellow qualifier Katie Boulter, 6-2, 6-1, in just 72 minutes, saving four of five breakpoints in the process and stretching her fine debut at the Pan Pacific Open.

The rising German player began the proceedings in Asia with a second-round finish in Seoul, but saved her best for the China Open. There in Beijing, she survived three consecutive three-set matches—including upsetting Elena Rybakina, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4, for her maiden top-10 win—and marched into a WTA 1000 quarterfinal.

After winning 14 matches on hard courts since leaving Wimbledon, the 23-year-old is in an increasingly likely position to finish the season inside the top-50 rankings. Currently, she is keeping her eyes peeled for her eighth career quarterfinal, her third of the season, and her first ever at a WTA 500 tournament.

Victoria Mboko lost a single service game and knocked out compatriot Bianca Andreescu, 6-3, 6-3, in a clash of the 2025 and 2019 National Bank Open champions. This is a significant result for the younger Canadian, who has now snapped her four-match losing streak and scored her first win since the Montreal history-making.

Two and a half months ago, she stunned four Grand Slam champions, including Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina and Naomi Osaka, en route to her unexpected triumph at the Canadian Masters. This was an utterly unforeseeable result that came from a 19-year-old who did not earn her first career wins on tour until Miami of this year.

Head-to-head: Victoria Mboko leads 1-0. The youngsters clashed in the second round of Roland-Garros earlier this season. Eva Lys was the considerably higher-ranked player at that time but proved no match for her opponent, eventually losing to a qualifier, 6-4, 6-4. Needless to say, this rematch is likely to be far tighter.
