Carlos Alcaraz stunned the entire tennis world on Wednesday by announcing the end of his partnership with coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. His fellow countryman had helped him win all six of his Grand Slam titles, and together they enjoyed their best season in 2025.

For Alcaraz, the 2025 season was the most successful of his career. He won the French Open and the US Open, collected a total of eight trophies, and finished the year as world number one. His coaching team was also awarded the ATP Coach of the Year prize.

But even that wasn't enough. The current world number one decided to bring an end to a successful partnership that lasted more than seven years.

"It's very hard for me to write this post. We made this decision together. Thank you for turning my childhood dreams into reality. We started this journey when I was still a kid," the Spanish superstar wrote on social media.

"We reached the top together, and I think if our paths are ever to part, now is the right time. At the very moment we always aimed for. So many memories are flooding my mind that picking just one wouldn't be fair. You helped me grow as an athlete, but above all as a person. Now it's time for change for both of us, bringing new adventures ahead," he added.

Alcaraz's announcement comes as a shock after the most successful season of his career. The other member of his coaching team, Samuel Lopez, will remain and continue to help the Spaniard in his quest for a first Australian Open title and a career Grand Slam.

If Ferrero decides to continue his coaching career, he certainly won't be short of offers. Before working with Alcaraz, he coached Alexander Zverev, and according to the Spanish daily Marca, he has received offers from other top 10 players as well.
