Both participants concluded the regular season with a stellar 14-3 record, but the Seahawks head into Sunday’s titanic match as clear favourites. Having delivered a better sequence of results than any other side in the conference, Mike Macdonald’s men commenced the playoffs as the NFC’s top seed.

Although this is their fourth appearance at the Super Bowl, the Seahawks have only once won the NFL’s top prize. That solitary triumph came back in 2013, when a sensational defensive backfield – famously nicknamed the ‘Legion of Boom’ – helped the Seattleites thrash the Denver Broncos 43-8 in New Jersey.

Meanwhile, the New England Patriots are aiming to rewrite the history books by claiming a record-breaking seventh Super Bowl title. The Pittsburgh Steelers are the only other side to have lifted the Vince Lombardi Trophy on six occasions, but the Patriots lead the way by some distance when it comes to Conference titles.

Their 12th AFC crown ensured they secured safe passage to the Super Bowl for the first time in eight years, so this is their first national final without the services of Tom Brady.

The three-time NFL MVP became the oldest quarterback to win the Super Bowl when the Pats defeated the Los Angeles Rams at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2019, contributing to a 13-3 victory at the modest age of 41 years and 183 days.

This weekend’s contest will be a rerun of Super Bowl XLIX, which saw the Patriots narrowly overcome the Seahawks in a thrilling close-run encounter. Having hosted the ‘golden anniversary’ Super Bowl exactly a decade ago, Santa Clara's Levi’s Stadium will once again take centre stage on Sunday night.

Super Bowl LX is available to watch on free-to-air service Channel 5, while Sky Sports are also providing live coverage from the home of the San Francisco 49ers.

New England Patriots v Seattle Seahawks team news

Both squads have been decimated by injury over the past weeks, leaving a series of question marks over who will feature on Sunday evening. The Patriots are arguably in a weaker condition, with several of their key players set to face late fitness tests.

New England Patriots team news

The potential absence of defensive captains Robert Spillane and Harold Landry will be of grave concern to Patriots boss Mike Vrabel, who also has to deal with multiple other casualties within his offensive line.

A combination of foot and ankle issues has plagued Spillane throughout the second half of the 2025 campaign, after making an extremely positive start to his Patriots career following a lucrative move from the Las Vegas Raiders.

The experienced linebacker continues to miss practice sessions, so he is unlikely to play a significant role at the Super Bowl.

Harold Landry also delivered a series of impressive performances after arriving at the Gillette Stadium in March, registering 8.5 sacks in his first 15 appearances.

However, a serious knee injury has impeded his progress since, with the former Tennessee Titans defender restricted to just 37 snaps during the postseason playoffs. Fellow defender Joshua Farmer has a slight hamstring strain, but should be available.

Having already been dealing with a shoulder problem, talented quarterback Drake Maye is now suffering from a bout of illness. The Patriots decided against activating Terrell Jennings from their injury reserve ahead of Wednesday’s deadline, but Mack Hollins could be involved despite struggling with an abdominal issue.

Morgan Moses and Hunter Henry are currently resting to ensure they’re in prime condition for the weekend, while Thayer Munford has had limited participation in practice over the past week and could therefore miss out.

Seattle Seahawks team news

While Mike Macdonald presides over a more extensive injury list than his managerial counterpart, the Seahawks have managed to keep most of their preferred starters fit.

Amari Kight has taken Chazz Surratt's spot on the injury reserve sheet, as the offensive tackle continues to recover from the knee injury he sustained during last month’s Divisional Round victory over the San Francisco 49ers at Lumen Field.

Meanwhile, Surratt appears to have shaken off the ankle issue he picked up just before Thanksgiving. The ex-New York Jets linebacker registered 11 combination tackles in his 11 regular-season appearances, but was unable to play a single minute of the playoffs.

The left tackle position has been a source of concern for Macdonald of late, with Charles Cross experiencing an injury-ravaged spell and secondary option Josh Jones also spending plenty of time on the treatment table. However, both players are expected to make some sort of contribution on Sunday.

It’s a similar story at fullback as Brady Russell and Robbie Ouzts are both not fully fit, while tight end Eric Saubert is likely to remain sidelined. Having delivered a collective total of 214 tackles over the course of the 2025 campaign, the defensive partnership of Drake Thomas and Ernest Jones is an essential part of the Seahawks’ well-oiled machine.

The same could be said of influential quarterback Sam Darnold, who covered a passing yardage of more than 4,500 yards last term. However, with all three men currently nursing mild upper-body injuries, Macdonald may need to make some unwanted alterations to his offensive line.

Josh Jobe (foot), Julian Love (shoulder), and Jake Bobo (hand) are also doubts.
