Long-time Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was fired after 18 years in charge of the team, several insiders reported on Tuesday.

The Ravens and Harbaugh, 63, decided to part ways after discussing his role for several days, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported.

John Harbaugh was the second-longest-serving head coach in the NFL before his firing, trailing only the Steelers' Mike Tomlin by one season.

General Manager Eric Da Costa is expected to remain with the Ravens.

Following a 13-4 season and a Divisional-round exit against the Bills in the 2024 season, Harbaugh and the Ravens went 8-9 in 2025.

They missed the playoffs on the final day of the season, losing 26-24 to the Pittsburgh Steelers in a win-and-in match after rookie kicker Tyler Loop missed a 44-yard walk-off field goal.

Super Bowl win and playoff misses

John Harbaugh joined the Baltimore Ravens in 2008 after serving as the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1997 to 2007.

During his 17-season reign with the Ravens, Harbaugh led his team to a 180-113 regular-season record and a 13-11 postseason record, including an NFL-record eight playoff wins on the road. In the 2012 season, the Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 to win Super Bowl XLVII.

After the Ravens drafted Louisville QB Lamar Jackson with the final pick of the first round in the 2018 NFL Draft, the team reached the playoffs in seven of the next eight seasons.

John Harbaugh was named AP NFL Coach of the Year following the 2019 season, in which the Ravens ended 14-2 and finished atop the AFC. With NFL MVP Lamar Jackson on their team as well, the Ravens were eliminated from the playoffs by the Tennessee Titans in the Divisional round.

The Ravens lost the only AFC Championship Game they reached since their Super Bowl XLVII win, falling 17-10 to the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2023 season.

The Ravens became the fifth NFL team to lose its head coach following last Sunday's conclusion of the 2025 season, joining the Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, and Arizona Cardinals.

Harbaugh is now expected to become a prominent candidate in the head coach hiring cycle.
