Irish police said Monday that no formal complaint has been made over an alleged incident involving Pittsburgh Steelers reserve quarterback Skylar Thompson after reports that he was assaulted and robbed.
The NFL team were in Dublin to play a first-ever regular-season game, against the Minnesota Vikings, on Sunday. Pittsburgh won 24-21 at Croke Park.
The Irish Independent daily newspaper said Thompson, 28, was briefly hospitalised with minor injuries after the incident late on Friday when he was socialising.
Thompson was "jumped and robbed" according to NFL.com, quoting unnamed sources.
Steelers star TJ Watt was asked about the alleged incident at a post-match press conference, but said he did not have enough information to comment.
Irish police issued a statement on Monday saying officers on patrol had "encountered a male who required medical assistance" in the early hours of Saturday.
"The male in his 20s was treated and assessed at the scene by emergency services personnel," they said.
"No formal complaint has been made by any person at this time."
Police added that following preliminary inquiries they had "no further information to substantiate, or not, any report this incident involved a robbery".
