France forward Ousmane Dembélé has capped a resurgent year with Paris Saint-Germain by winning the 2025 Ballon d’Or, while Spain and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmatí took home the women’s prize.

It was a night of heavy Barça influence as 18-year-old Lamine Yamal claimed the Kopa Trophy for the best under-21 player, with his compatriot Vicky López lifting the women’s equivalent. “It’s an honour to be here again,” said Lamine Yamal, thanking both Barça and Spain for their roles in his rapid ascent.

England boss Sarina Wiegman won the women’s Johan Cruyff Trophy, with PSG’s Luis Enrique taking the men’s award. In a characteristically thoughtful speech, Wiegman hailed her players, staff and family, while stressing the broader significance of the honour.

“The women’s game has grown so far that we have broken records,” she said. “This is not just a personal award but recognition of our journey. We must keep our identity: being authentic, inclusive, a place where everyone belongs. I hope we keep fighting together against misogyny and racism. Sport should unite and never divide.”

Chelsea and England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton won the women’s Yashin Trophy, with Manchester City’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, recognised for his time at PSG, taking the men’s prize.

Hampton used her moment to pay tribute to former Liverpool manager Matt Beard, who died earlier this month aged 47.

“Matt cared an awful lot for the women’s game when no one else did,” she said. “He lit up the room. Sometimes the brightest smiles hide the heaviest pain. He’ll be greatly missed.”

Elsewhere, Barcelona’s Ewa Pajor and Arsenal’s former Sporting striker Viktor Gyökeres collected the women’s and men’s Gerd Müller awards for goalscoring. Arsenal, buoyed by their Champions League triumph, were named women’s club of the year, while PSG secured the men’s title.

The Socrates Award was given to the Xana Foundation, established by Luis Enrique in memory of his daughter, Xana, who died at the age of nine after a battle with bone cancer.
