The fifth and final Ashes Test of the series takes place on January 3 (January 4 in Australia), and whilst being a rubber match, England will do all they can to make the final score 3-2 over 4-1.
The fourth test was called ‘absurd’ and ‘crazy’ after it finished after only two days. The ground was said to favour bowlers, but this game in Sydney is set to go more like those first three tests.
Below, we look at the stats and crunch the numbers to come up with some savvy bets for you to consider for the end of the Ashes.
Australia v England Tips
England to win - 21/10 @ bet365

England to build on their win
With nothing to play for but pride, England will have a lot of pressure off. The last match with nothing riding on it will allow England to play with clearer minds and really show their true potential. Despite the abnormal pitch conditions of the fourth test, a win is a win, and the momentum is strong with England now. I predict they follow up their first win with a second and win this test.
Tip: England to win - 21/10 @ bet365
Bet Explanation: England need to win the match for this bet to win.
Australia to start strong
I think England will come out with a point to prove and start strong. That start will allow England to build and head towards a win overall. Having said that, I think Australia will take a first-innings lead. Steve Smith and his charges will play cautiously and safely, with arguably the pressure off them having already won the series. England will be happy to be in contention after the first innings and then press on after, which is why, conversely, I think Australia lead once all is said and done after everyone bats/bowls.
Tip: Australia to take first innings lead - 8/15 @ bet365
Bet Explanation: Australia will lead at the end of the first innings for this bet to win.
Root to get over 30 runs
When England needs a batting hero, Joe Root takes charge. His century earlier in the series did not help England that day, but just showed how well Root can do in difficult circumstances. In two of the four tests so far, Root has got 30+ runs in one of his innings, and considering nobody got over 46 in the fourth test, that acts as an outlier. So in two of his three tests, Root has hit 30+ runs, and I back him to do it again here.
Tip: Root 30+ Runs - 2/11 @ bet365
Bet Explanation: For this bet to win, Joe Root has to get over 30 runs in either of his batting innings.
