Fallon Sherrock returns to the site where she announced her name to the darting world all those years ago as she plays Dave ‘Chizzy’ Chisnall in a first-round tie at the PDC World Championships. Whilst she has been unable to recreate the performance that she found all those years ago, this year the darting world would love to see her recreate the magic of 2020.
Sherrock announced back in June that she would be taking a break in 2026 from the sport to focus on her health. Despite that, Sherrock has been focused on making this year as good as she could and has managed to reach the World Championships again, recently also making it to the PDC Women’s World Matchplay Final.
Chizzy has had a disappointing 2025 season, saying he has felt a little cursed this year. The frustrations of his missed opportunities in this lacklustre year have taken their toll on Chizzy, but he will be hoping to find some form and bounce back once he takes to the Ally Pally stage.

Despite having a bad year, I do think that Chizzy will have too much for Sherrock. Both players fell in their first match of the World Championships last year, but Sherrock has fallen at the first hurdle every year since the 2020 tournament, and against players who aren’t ranked as high as Chisnall. Sherrock could push Chizzy all the way, just not enough to win.

More than three sets
With neither coming in with the best of years behind them, this game could be tight. Chisnall has had a real struggle closing out games, whilst Sherrock’s problems away from the board have held her back from performing at the level she has before. With neither having a good 2025, this match could ebb and flow either way.
The beauty of set play compared to leg play is that momentum can shift so easily, and mindset arguably counts for more. Sherrock’s recent run to the PDC Women’s World Matchplay Final shows that she could be finding some form now, making the match all the more interesting and seeing both players get at least one set.

Chizzy’s problem this year has been with his finishing rather than his scoring. Always regarded as one of the highest scorers on the tour, he can still nail a maximum with some of the best. This year, he sits just outside the top 30 in the world for 180s, achieving 354 in the past 12-month period.
Compared to Sherrock’s 174 for the year, based solely on stats, Chzzy should hit over double the 180s in the match than his opponent - but darts never works like that. Nevertheless, we can be pretty sure that Chizzy will keep his scoring up and nail the 180 more than Sherrock.
