Luke Woodhouse advanced into the second round with a convincing 3-0 win over Lourence Ilagan of the Philippines, but Scotland's Alan Soutar suffered a 3-1 defeat to debutant Kai Gotthardt.
The first match of the day saw Wesley Plaisier take out Ryusei Azemoto in the first round.

Wade 0-3 Wattimena
The match got off to a fast start with lots of triples. Wade started the match and hit the first dart on a double. Via double 12 it became 1-0.
Wattimena missed twice, giving Wade the chance to break from 80, but the Englishman missed. Wattimena threw out double eight to make it 1-1.
Wade missed two darts at 35 on double 10 and that cost him dearly. Wattimena hit double five to take the break.
Wade had two more chances to break, but tops and double 10 went wrong again. Wattimena cashed in on the break and took the first set: 1-0.
In the second set, Wade had a chance to break from 118, but missed double 19. Wattimena took advantage and made it 1-0 via tops.
Wade also missed another chance from 110, but all those missed darts cost him dearly. Wattimena hit tops to make it 2-0 in the set. Wattimena had a set arrow from 121, but missed the bullseye.
Wade also had a chance from 136, but missed on double eight. Wattimena threw out 25 to win the set 3-0 and take a 2-0 lead.
The Dutchman also had chances for the break in the first leg of the third set. In 13 darts,
Wattimena finally threw out tops and won the seventh leg in a row. Wattimena was unstoppable, as another 126 went out via double six to put him already on match point.
This leg went out in 12 darts. Wade came back to 2-1 by throwing tops and he got four darts on the break.
He missed all chances and this gave Wattimena three match darts. He hit the second one to win 3-1 in the third set and the match 3-0.
Soutar 1-3 Gotthardt
Kai Gotthardt opened the match, but missed five darts on the double. Soutar took advantage and grabbed the break by throwing out 94. Gotthardt quickly fought back and took the break back via double 14. In the end, all legs went against the darts.
Soutar threw out double five to make it 2-1 and pulled the set within 76 to throw out. The German then came back and took the set away from the Scot.
In the first leg, he made the difference. Throwing out 95 got the break right away and then all the legs went with the darts, making it 3-1 for Gotthardt.
Gotthardt pushed on and even took the lead. In the second leg, he took the break by hitting 72 and won the set 3-0 by hitting double nine. He also started the third set with a break by hitting 69 and capitalised on the break by hitting double one.
Soutar came back to 2-2 and had one dart at double 12 to throw out 101 and equalise in sets, but it went wrong and Gotthardt threw out double 2 to win the set 3-2 and the match 3-1.

Woodhouse 3-0 Ilagan
Luke Woodhouse won the opening leg in the set he got to start and also grabbed the break in the second leg. Lourence Ilagan missed three arrows on double 18, after which Woodhouse hit double eight.
Woodhouse also eventually won the set 3-0. With a first maximum score, double four was eventually thrown.
In the second set too, Woodhouse was much better than his opponent from the Phillipines. Ilagan failed to get 36 out in the first leg, Woodhouse did throw double eight.
Woodhouse then cashed in on the break and 40 also failed to go out for Ilagan in the third leg. Woodhouse threw out 115 to lead 2-0 in sets.
In the third set, the Englishman continued happily. He missed seven darts on a double, but hit double four to make it 1-0. He thus won all seven legs played up to that point.
But the eighth leg went to Woodhouse. He threw out 103 to make it 1-1. Ilagan had a chance for the break from 121, but missed the bullseye. Woodhouse did throw double eight and got to match point.
Ilagan won another leg, but Woodhouse won the match. He again threw out double eight and will play Mike de Decker in the second round.

Plaisier 3-2 Azemoto
Plaisier started the match very nervously on his first World Cup. Azemoto got chances for the break right away. The first three went wrong, but the fourth opportunity flew into the double five.
Azemoto cashed in the break by hitting tops to make it 2-0. The third leg did go to the Dutchman, who threw out 57. Azemoto took the first set as double 12 went out: 3-1. Plaisier threw only 78 average.
In the second set, Plaisier had a chance at the break, but missed tops from 73. He was allowed to come back for it, as Azemoto missed a handful of darts on the double, but Plaisier did the same afterwards.
He was allowed another comeback and took the break by throwing double 10: 1-0 for Plaisier.
The break was cashed in via double 16. Azemoto threw out 102 in his own leg. He did so in a curious way, as he started with the bull.
Plaisier missed four set pieces and gave Azemoto the break via double 10, making it 2-2 and putting a lot of pressure on the last leg. Plaisier took the break via tops and with it the set 3-2.
Missing the doubles was Plaisier's biggest problem, as he missed five darts again in the first leg, allowing Azemoto to break again. Plaisier hit only four dimes out of 21.
Azemoto cashed in on the break by throwing out 68 to leave the Dutchman reeling again. Plaisier kept his own leg, but then missed two chances for the break and so Azemoto took the set. He threw out tops to make it 2-1.
Plaisier had a chance for the break in the first leg from 112, but missed again. Azemoto hit double 10 to make it 1-0, two legs away from victory. In the second leg of the fourth set only the first 180 fell, from the hand of Plaisier.
Then 96 also went out and it was 1-1. Plaisier got another arrow on the break from 110, but missed tops again. Azemoto also had a chance from 120, but he too missed tops.
Plaisier did throw double 10 and took the necessary break: 2-1. Plaisier eventually took the set by hitting 76 from tops: 3-1 in the fourth set.
The Dutchman suddenly picked up his level anyway, as he threw his second maximum score of the match and then worked 98 off the board to make it 1-0. As such, he threw out the last four legs all in five innings.
He then almost threw out 96 via double 19 twice, but the second shot off the board. Azemoto failed to throw out double four and so the Dutchman came back for it.
He threw out 38 to make it 2-0 in the deciding set. He started the third leg with a 180, eventually winning the match by throwing double 8. In the second round, Plaisier will play Peter Wright.
