23:40 GMT - The quarter-final line-up is now complete with the players returning to Ally Pally on New Year's Day for a place in the last four of the PDC World Darts Championship.

Quarter-finals

Peter Wright v Stephen Bunting

Luke Littler v Nathan Aspinall

Chris Dobey v Gerwyn Price

Michael van Gerwen v Callan Rydz

23:25 GMT - What a thrilling end to the final fourth round match - and the final match of the year. Here's how the day unfolded:

Kevin Doets 3-4 Chris Dobey

Robert Owen 3-4 Callan Rydz

Ricardo Pietreczko 0-4 Nathan Aspinall

Stephen Bunting 4-0 Luke Woodhouse

Michael van Gerwen 4-2 Jeffrey de Graaf

Luke Littler 4-3 Ryan Joyce

23:10 GMT - Luke Littler said Ryan Joyce "threw everything" at him in their fourth round four clash, but he managed to "dig deep" to reach the quarter-finals.

"I said to him (Joyce) 'I thought you didn't have your power scoring'. He threw everything at me," he told Sky Sports.

"I break Ryan in the first set and he comes and hits me back with it and then I break him again and he makes it 2-2 but if I hold my own set it would have been over and done with, but I got to dig deep.

"I just wanted him to miss. I had a lot of chances at my doubles whilst Ryan weren't close but I'm happy to win.

"I wouldn't say I was nervous. It was adrenaline. I knew the last leg I told myself to hold my own and I did on that double 12. It shows I can hit it.

"I don't end the year on five nine-darters but hopefully I'll start the year strong for everyone."

22:56 GMT - LITTLER WINS! The 17 year old checks out 66 and lets out a huge roar to celebrate his place in the Ally Pally quarter-finals.

22:55 GMT - Joyce wins the leg but Littler has the throw now and could be on his way to the quarters...

22:53 GMT - Littler holds his throw to take himself to within one leg of the quarter-finals

22:51 GMT - Littler thows six perfect darts on his way to win the leg against the throw. Incredible nerves from the youngster!

22:49 GMT - We're going to a deciding set! Littler has a match dart but misses! Joyce only needs two darts to close out double 16 - seventh set here we come.

22:47 GMT - Littler breaks back by hitting double tops when Joyce missed out on a finish of 107. Littler is throwing for the match!

22:43 GMT - Joyce holds throw by checking out eight for a 2-0 lead in the sixth set. He is one leg away from setting up a deciding set here.

22:41 GMT - Joyce breaks Littler in the first leg of the sixth set. We've been treated to a superb match out there.

22:39 GMT - Littler checks out on 68 to win the leg and the set. Littler is now one set away from the quarter-finals.

22:36 GMT - Littler has three darts at 40 to win the leg but he misses all three. He is back for another visit, though, and eventually checks out on double five for a 2-1 lead in the fifth set.

22:32 GMT - Joyce has his second ton-plus finish of the night as he throws double tops to close out 117 and win the first leg of the fifth set.

22:28 GMT - Joyce holds his nerve to check out 86 with two darts and level things up at 2-2! What a match we have on our hands.

22:26 GMT - Littler wins the third leg but Joyce has the darts in hand to win the set if he holds here.

22:24 GMT - Joyce breaks Littler in the first leg of the fourth set and then holds throw for a 2-0 lead.

22:20 GMT - Littler has 117 to check out but can't do it. However, he leaves double tops which he mops up on the next visit for a 2-1 lead in sets.

22:15 GMT - Plenty of emotion from Littler as he checks out a relatively modest 66 to break his opponent. A lot of tension out there.

22:08 GMT - Unbelievable! Littler can't check out 130, missing the bull as he gets 25 instead, and Joyce steps up to check out 116 and win the set with double 18! Each leg in that one went against the throw.

22:07 GMT - The fourth break of the set! Littler checks out double 15 to make it 2-2 in the second set and he's first up at the oche this time. He could take a 2-0 lead if he wins this leg.

22:06 GMT - But then Littler is broken again when Joyce hits double 20 at the second time of asking, which means Joyce now has the throw and if he wins this leg he wins the set.

22:03 GMT - No, normal service resumes as Littler breaks back with a 13-dart leg.

22:01 GMT - Joyce breaks Littler in the first leg of the second set. This could be interesting.

21:52 GMT - Joyce checks out on 85 for a hold of throw but Littler steps up for a finish of double 20 in the fourth leg. He hits a single 20 but no matter, that leaves old faithful double ten, which he duly sees of to win the first set.

21:51 GMT - Joyce can't check out 120 and Littler steps up to finish with his favoured double ten.

21:50 GMT - LIttler's first four darts sink into the treble 20. He's in a mood and checks out double ten for a break of throw in the opening leg.

21:48 GMT - We're underway!

21:45 GMT - Technically the only man as well since Littler is still a teenager, but either way here comes the Nuke to a huge welcome from the Ally Pally faithful.

21:43 GMT - Here we go, ladies and gents. Joyce is the first man to take the stage.

21:41 GMT - Littler has hit double the number of tournament 180s that Joyce has (22 to 11), but Joyce is the king of the doubles. He's converted 37 out of 72 attempts at doubles, putting him him at an average of over 50 per cent.

21:32 GMT - But first, the final match of the year at Ally Pally! Luke Littler is up next, and will be taking on Ryan Joyce to close out the session as well as 2024 here in north London.

21:29 GMT - Michael Van Gerwen will play Callan Rydz in the quarter-finals. That will be a great clash in the new year. Here's what it meant for Rydz to punch his ticket into the next round:

21:24 GMT - GAME OVER! Michael Van Gerwen, take a bow. He was frustrated when De Graaf came back from 2-0 behind to level up at 2-2, but he channeled that frustration and won 4-2 to book his place in the last eight.

21:23 GMT - MVG narrowly misses out on winning with a 144 finish as he hits two treble 20s but misses the double 12. He'll get another go at it shortly though, as De Graaf can't check out on this visit.

21:21 GMT - Van Gerwen has 58 for a break of throw and he nails it in two darts. He is now one leg away from a place in the quarter-finals.

21:17 GMT - MVG hits breaks De Graaf for a second time in the fifth set to win 3-0 and take a 4-3 lead in the match. He was angered by those last two sets by the looks of things.

21:15 GMT - Van Gerwen breaks De Graaf in the opening leg of the fifth set before staring down the barrel of an 88 checkout. The Dutchman can't convert but does so at the second time of asking to make it two legs to 0.

21:06 GMT - MVG lets out a roar as he nails a 180 but he then fluffs his lines as he misses three darts for the break. De Graaf holds his nerve to win the set and make it 2-2 out there!

21:03 GMT - De Graaf missed two darts for a break of throw but MVG couldn't finish on his visit to punish his opponent. De Graaf only needed one dart on his next turn to nail the double nine and put himself one leg away from levelling this match.

20:59 GMT - De Graaf holds his nerve to win the set 3-0 after MVG missed double top to win the leg and the Swede responded by taking out double 18. Game on!

20:55 GMT - De Graaf breaks Van Gerwen and then fires an 11-dart leg to hold. He's fighting back!

20:48 GMT - MVG is in complete control here - he wins the third leg to whitewash his opponent 3-0 in the second set for a 2-0 lead.

20:45 GMT - Van Gerwen breaks his opponent's throw to take a 2-0 lead in the second set. Incredibly he is averaging over 105 despite only having thrown two 180s.

20:37 GMT - Van Gerwen breaks De Graaf again, but this time the Swede can't return the favour. MVG takes the fourth leg to claim a 1-0 lead to the delight of the Ally Pally crowd.

20:32 GMT - Van Gerwen kicks things off by winning the first leg against the throw, but his opponent breaks straight back to make it 1-1.

20:26 GMT - We're now minutes away from our second match of the evening session as first Jeffrey de Graaf and then Michael Van Gerwen take the stage.

20:14 GMT - Woodhouse registered one solitary 180 in that match and only converted three out of 14 attempts at double. A really difficult night for him but credit to Bunting, who averaged just shy of 97 in those four sets.

20:08 GMT - GAME OVER! It just hasn't been Woodhouse's night. He is broken once again and Bunting has steamrolled his countryman 4-0. That's about as emphatic as it gets.

20:06 GMT - Woodhouse misses out on a chance to break Bunting but can't convert a checkout of 74. Bunting is now one leg away from sealing a 4-0 win.

19:57 GMT - Bunting wins the third set! Woodhouse had a chance to close out 120 but his second dart went for one which ended his hopes. Bunting finished clinically for a 3-0 lead.

19:55 GMT - Here we go! Woodhouse wins a leg with a checkout of 150. Could this be the fightback?

19:53 GMT - Bunting breaks Woodhouse once again and takes a 2-0 lead in the third set. It's looking ominous for Woodhouse.

19:43 GMT - Bunting is in complete command here. He drops a leg but still cruises to a 3-1 victory in the second set which puts him 2-0 up in this match.

19:27 GMT - Bunting has rolled Woodhouse 3-0 in the opening set. Unbelievable darts! He operated at an average of 98.02 in that set and converted three out of five attempts at doubles.

19:27 GMT - Bunting breaks Woodhouse in the first leg of the match, and subsequently won on his own throw so already has control of the first set.

19:21 GMT - We will have Luke Littler and Michael Van Gerwen a little later, but first up we have Stephen Bunting against Luke Woodhouse.

19:10 GMT - Right then, here we go. The evening session is about to get underway!

18:04 GMT - Nathan Aspinall said "the shackles are off" after he beat Ricardo Pietreczko in the final match of the afternoon session to progress to the quarter-finals.

Aspinall beat the German 4-0 to make it to the stage he initially set as his target for the tournament, and says that now the pressure is off he has set his sights on winning this year's World Darts Championships.

"I'm over the moon to make the quarter-finals. Whoever I play next, they're probably going to be the favourite but you know me, that spurs me on. I love being the underdog," Aspinall said in his post-match press conference.

"Coming into the last 32 I was 25th favourite. I was like, what? But I use that as motivation.

"My focus is winning the World Championships now. It was getting into the quarters, but it's now switched, I want to win this title. I've got an opportunity here that another 88 players would love to be in.

"I'm now in the quarter-finals, I believe the shackles are off.

"I feel now the pressure if off me and I can do what I did in the last two sets.

"Those last two sets was probably the most free darts I've thrown in the last two years: no pressure, and I think you've seen the averages in the scoring. That was the Nathan of old and hopefully I can continue that into New Year's Day."

16:53 GMT - Ahead of the evening session later tonight, here's how the quarter-finals - to be held on New Year's Day - are shaping up:

Peter Wright v Stephen Bunting or Luke Woodhouse

Luke Littler or Ryan Joyce v Nathan Aspinall

Chris Dobey v Gerwyn Price

Michael van Gerwen or Jeffrey de Graaf v Callan Rydz

16:48 GMT - Here are the results from a thrilling afternoon session at Ally Pally:

Kevin Doets 3-4 Chris Dobey

Robert Owen 3-4 Callan Rydz

Ricardo Pietreczko 0-4 Nathan Aspinall

And with that, the quarter-final line-up is almost complete. There are three more fourth round matches later this evening with just three last eight places up for grabs:

Stephen Bunting v Luke Woodhouse

Michael van Gerwen v Jeffrey de Graaf

Luke Littler v Ryan Joyce

16:37 GMT - Nathan Aspinall will face the winner of the match between Luke Littler and Ryan Joyce which will wrap up the evening session in a few hours' time.

16:27 GMT - GAME OVER! Aspinall wins the fourth set and that's the match. He hasn't dropped a set since his opening match against Leonard Gates on the 18th of December.

16:24 GMT - Aspinall checks out 131 to put himself 2-1 up in the set. He's now one leg away from the quarter-finals.

16:16 GMT - Aspinall wins the third set 3-0. He lost the first leg of this match and hasn't lost one since - he's now 3-0 ahead and one set away from victory.

16:03 GMT - Aspinall closes out 77 with a treble 17 and double ten. The Asp is now 2-0 ahead and halfway to a potential quarter-final showdown with Luke Littler.

16:00 GMT - Aspinall has broken Pietreczko in the second leg of the second set. He's now in the driving seat to take a 2-0 lead.

15:53 GMT - Meanwhile, a bit of post-match reaction from an emotional Rydz following his win over Owen:

15:50 GMT - Aspinall has won the opening set in clinical fashion. He held his nerve to win the second leg on his throw, before rattling through the remaining legs to take a 1-0 lead in this crucial match.

15:39 GMT - Here come Nathan Aspinall and Ricardo Pietreczko for their showdown. It's the final match of the afternoon session and there is plenty at stake as the victor will likely be facing Luke Littler in the next round.

15:28 GMT - Owen was only able to convert 12 out of 43 attempts at the doubles, while Rydz manahed 16 out of 37. That was what made the difference out there.

15:25 GMT - GAME OVER! Owen had three darts to win the set and level things up, but he missed all three. Rydz made no such mistake as he finished his opponent off with a 3-1 win in the seventh set to win the match 4-3.

15:23 GMT - And another break! We've had three legs so far in this seventh set and all three have gone against the throw. Rydz leads 2-1.

15:22 GMT - Owen hits six perfect darts to step up to the oche with a nine-darter in his sights. He misses the first triple but he won't mind as he closes out the leg to break back immediately. It's now 1-1 in the deciding set.

15:20 GMT - Rydz breaks Owen in the first leg of the deciding set - Owen had six darts to win the leg so that one will sting.

15:18 GMT - Meanwhile, before the appearance of the Asp, we have the Wasp...

15:17 GMT - The Welshman wins the leg to take us all the way to a deciding set!

15:15 GMT - The pair trade legs to make it 2-1 with the darts in the hand of Owen. If he wins this leg he will force a deciding set. Lose the leg and Rydz will be throwing for the match.

15:12 GMT - Owen wins the opening leg against the throw - can he regain the momentum?

15:10 GMT - Rydz wins the second leg and then breaks Owen again to once again stroll to a 3-0 victory in the set. He hasn't dropped a leg since the second set and it's now 3-2 to the Englishman.

15:05 GMT - Rydz has broken Owen in the opening leg of the fifth set. He's a man on a mission here.

14:58 GMT - Wow, that third set really awoke the beast. Rydz breaks Owen in the second leg to walk the fourth set 3-0 and level the match up at 2-2. Impressive stuff.

14:52 GMT - Owen steps up to try check out 140 and hits the two triple 20s, but can't find the double 10 to win the leg. He gets another chance to win it, but his second dart crashes into the five as he searched for a double on that number. Rydz needed no further invitation to win the leg and with it, make it 2-1. That will hurt Owen as he was a dart away from a 3-0 lead there.

14:47 GMT - Owen has his second ton-plus checkout of the match as he makes quick work of 142 to level the third set 1-1.

14:39 GMT - Impressive stuff from Owen who checks out 81 to win the second set and take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Welshman is on fire!

14:27 GMT - Owen has taken a 1-0 lead after winning the opening set. Clinical stuff from the man ranked 77th in the world - especially when you consider his opponent hadn't dropped a set in the tournament up to now.

14:17 GMT - Here comes the next pairing. Callan Rydz and Welshman Robert Owen make their way onto the stage for game two of the afternoon session.

14:08 GMT - Chris Dobey will now face Gerwyn Price in the quarter-finals at Ally Pally in the new year.

14:05 GMT - Dobey has done it! He breaks Doets to win the seventh set 3-1 and win the match 4-3. Great nerve from the Englishman, who was pushed all the way by an impressive performance from his Dutch opponent.

14:02 GMT - Dobey has to close out 48 and he makes no mistake, only needing one dart at eight and one at double tops for a 2-1 lead in the final set.

14:00 GMT - Dobey breaks back! Doets struggled to command a leg in which he had the throw, and Dobey capitalised to make it 1-1 in the deciding seventh set.

13:58 GMT - Doets breaks Dobey in the first leg of the decider! Dobey had three darts at double 16 but sent all three wide. Doets then held his nerve to take control of this match. He's never been to the quarter-final stage of this tournament - could that be about to change?

13:55 GMT - Doets had the throw in that sixth set but struggled to find the killer blow. As it is, Dobey holds his nerve to win the sixth set and send us into a final-set decider!

13:48 GMT - Poor finishes are costing Dobey here. Doet is hovering at an average around 92, with Dobey in the 96 region - but Dobey has missed 33 out of 44 attempts at the double.

13:47 GMT - WOW! Dobey is the latest to fail on the double, and he pays for it as Doets shakes off his poor form to close out 130 and take a 3-2 lead in this match!

13:44 GMT - They've both got the jitters. Doets had the darts to win the set but fluffed his lines, Dobey then did the same, before Doets failed again. Dobey finally secured the fourth leg to level ths fifth set up 2-2.

13:31 GMT - Doets takes the fourth set! Dobey was at the board needing 32 but couldn't close it out and Doets duly stepped up to send his first two darts into 25 and double tops to level things up in Ally Pally.

13:28 GMT - Dobey breaks Doets but the Dutchman hits back to close out 71 and win the fourth leg to set up a fifth-leg decider. Doets is not going down without a fight.

13:19 GMT - Doets is still struggling a touch, but Dobey has well and truly found his rhythm. He breaks Doets in the second leg to whitewash the set 3-0 and take a 2-1 lead in the match. He's two sets away from a quarter-final against Gerwyn Price.

13:10 GMT - Well this has livened up! Doets has won the second set in double-quick time after some big darts where Doets boasted an average of 103.23 and Dobey hit 106.67 despite losing the set 3-1. We are all level at 1-1 in the opening match of this afternoon session at Alexandra Palace.

13:03 GMT - It's not a great start from both of these players - Doets has missed 12 out of 13 doubles, while Dobey has missed 12 out of 15.

13:00 GMT - Doets end up in the mad house needing double one to finish. He misses four darts at it and Dobey takes the gap to break yet again and win the first set 3-1.

12:57 GMT - Doets breaks back when Doeby fails to close out 32. Doets had the same number to finish the leg, and only needed one dart to make it 2-1.

12:55 GMT - We have the first break of the game as Doets failes to finish on 54 and then 20 to open the door for Dobey, who duly obliges to take control of the first set with a 2-0 lead.

12:51 GMT - Here we go, our first walk-on of the day sees Chris Dobey join Kevin Doets on stage to the tune of PJ & Duncan's 'Let's Get Ready To Rhumble'.

12:43 GMT - Chris Dobey will be hoping to book a place in the quarter-finals with a big performance today, but he'll have his work cut out as he's taking on the man who sent former champion Michael Smith crashing out well before Christmas.

12:34 GMT - Some huge match-ups to keep us entertained throughout the day!

11:30 GMT - Welcome back to the Alexandra Palace in London which is still in shock after Luke Humphries, the reigning champion, was unceremoniously dumped out of the tournament by Peter Wright last night.

Will there be more surprises today? All eyes will be on the clear favourite Luke Littler, who hasn't enjoyed the best of starts, but will be among those looking to book their place in the quarter-final later.

Littler will be last on the oche with six fourth round matches scheduled in the order of play.

Here's how today will unfold, with the afternoon session getting underway in just over an hour.

Afternoon session (from 12:40 GMT)

Kevin Doets v Chris Dobey

Robert Owen v Callan Rydz

Ricardo Pietreczko v Nathan Aspinall

Evening session (from 19:10 GMT)

Stephen Bunting v Luke Woodhouse

Michael van Gerwen v Jeffrey de Graaf

Luke Littler v Ryan Joyce
