23:44 GMT - Rob Cross can't seem to hit anything. Williams narrowly misses the big fish. Cross sweeps up tops to take the first leg. Williams holds the second leg with a ton checkout.

Cross takes the third leg in 12 darts with another ton-plus finish. Williams power to 24 left on the board, which he takes out to put him one leg away from the match.

No breaks so far this set, Shaggy could do with one now and he hits an immediate 180. He hits another to make it six perfect darts. He misses the seventh, but he leaves Cropss needing a big fish to stay alive. -which he can't find.

Williams needs 80 but missed two tops - for the match! Cross can't punish. He takes out tops the next time and stuns 2018 champion Rob Cross. 

Another seed bites the dust!

23:33 GMT - A tremendous 130 finish brings an opening break for Cross, who is 50 per cent on the doubles. He just can't keep up with some of Williams' powerful score building.

Cross leaves double 16 but can't find it with three darts. Williams takes the break back, and holds the third with a double 3 to go 2-1 up in legs.

Williams looks like he might race away with this set as he finds himself looking at a finish first. He's left with 40 but misses three set darts. He comes back for double 10 to move ahead in sets.

23:18 GMT - Another 180 to start for Cross. He leaves 40 and takes it out in one attempt.

Williams can't take out 48, Cross pops double 16 to break and make it 2-0.

Williams pins a 180, he's not had as many as usual tonight. Another swiftly follows and he takes out 52 to win the third leg. He now has the darts for the fourth after that break back. Cross went well off the boil in that one.

Voltage wakes up on 94, but misses tops. Williams takes out 62 to make it 2-2 in the second leg.

Cross with the darts now, but perhaps not the momentum. Williams hits 177 to set up a nine, but misses the treble on his fifth. Still, he has Cross in a world of trouble and reaches a finish first. Cross is nowhere near. He takes out 72 in style to take the sets to one all. Great recovery from two down for Shaggy!

23:03 GMT - Williams throws first. Not the biggest scoring leg, Williams takes out 25 to hold.

Cross pins the first and second 180s in the second leg. He takes out 64 to even the set. Williams misses three at 36, but Cross can't take out 126. Cross misses 67, Williams misses nine at the double. Cross finally takes the break on double 16 to make it 2-1. 

Cross is throwing for the first set. He sticks a well grouped 180. Williams scores big though, as he always does, and has a first look at a finish, but misses. Cross can't hit 126, allowing Williams to make it 2-2.

Williams is now throwing for the set. Cross hits the fourth 180 but struggles in the next two visits. He gets a look at 73 but misses tops. Williams misses two set darts, and Cross mops up on double 10. Cross takes the first set.

22:39 GMT - The last match before the Christmas break is up next as former world champion Rob Cross faces last year's semi-finalist Scott Williams.

22:32 GMT - Evans holds his throw with a 40 out to make it 5-4 in legs. Chisnall's in survival mode again; he thinks he's sunk 139, but it turns out to be a 131. Evans looks for 130 and misses. Chisnall looks for double 4, which goes out on the third attempt. We're into sudden death!

Evans has the darts in the decider and starts with two trebles. He can't take out 105, Chisnall is left with 170 but misses the second treble. Evans takes out 52 to eliminate Chisnall!

22:24 GMT - Evans starts the fifth leg with a 180. He's absolutely pummeling the tungsten in tonight. He takes out a very important tops to leave him a break away again. 

Chisnall is under pressure and misses 146. Evans needs 123 for the match, with one go at the bull. He narrowly misses. Chisnall survives and takes out double 8 to make us 3-3 in legs. He takes out 16 on the third attempt to take the lead in the match and, crucially, one leg away with the darts.

Chisnall hits a massive 180 to take a giant leap towards the next round. Evans puts the pressure on him with a max. Chisnall is left with 68 for the match but misses tops. Evans goes for 110 and takes it. We're back level at 4-4.

22:15 GMT - Evans has a slight advantage with the darts here in the fifth and final set and holds the first comfortably. 

Chisnall looks for 82, but he misses two at double 16. He comes back but misses another three for the leg. Evans can't capitalise, and Chizzy finally gets out of the madhouse to just about clinch the leg: it's 1-1.

Evans has a chance to hold with a 60 checkout, which he takes out with minimal fuss. He's one break away from the match win.

Chisnall is millimetres out from a big fish finish. Evans needs 151 and fails, so Chizzy comes back for 25, which is taken. It's 2-2, we need two clear legs for a winner!

22:05 GMT - An excellent bullseye finish out of 121 takes the first leg for Chizzy. They're flying in again now. He breaks in the next leg on double 12 to move one away from a deciding set.

It's a maximum from Chisnall to start. He follows it up with a 140. He's sitting on 44 within nine darts, and he takes out tops to seal the asset in 11 darts. It's 2-2.

21:59 GMT - Evans sticks a 180 in the first leg of the third set. He can't take out 71 though. Chisnall gets three goes for the leg at tops but misses each attempt. Evans then takes out double 10 to miraculously hold his throw.

A few errors are starting to creep in for Chisnall, but Evans looks like he's enjoying himself up there. Evans leaves 52 with Chisnall nowhere near a finish, although he misses the double 16. He comes back for double 8 which he pins in one to lead the set 2-0.

Evans sticks his second 180 of the match as he looks to blitz his way to an overall lead. Both are averaging around 99. Chisnall eventually cleans up 25 to get on the board in set three, but Evans immediately breaks back to take the set.

21:46 GMT - That was a break of throw for Chisnall in that first set, and he starts with the darts in the second. He misses double 2, but Evans can't take out 103, allowing Chizzy to sweep up double 1 to hold. Evans races to a leveller, though, and he's certainly picking up the pace.

Chisnall is averaging 102, while Evans is a little over 97. Chisnall hits tops for a 14-dart leg to make it 2-1 in the set. Evans responds yet again with another speedy leg, finishing on double 12.

The favourite leaves 90, with Evans lurking in the wings on 40. He misses double 5 for the set, and Evans comes back to sink tops and the set. It's 1-1.

21:32 GMT - Chizzy comfortably breaks in the first leg. With the darts he polishes a 16-dart leg to make it 2-0. He nearly checks out with a big fish but misses the bull, while Evans takes out an excellent 126 to make it 2-1.

Chisnall hits back with back-to-back 180 in the fourth leg. No treble-less at all so far for him. He can't take out 48, leaving a big fish for Evans, which is missed by the finest of margins. Chisnall comes back needed 32, which goes out in three darts to give him a 1-0 lead.

21:11 GMT - Up next is world number six Dave Chisnall against Ricky Evans.

21:10 GMT - A big 180 to start the fifth set for Gurney, who's looking to break in this one, and he eventually hits five perfect darts. He leaves 32 to take an overall lead, which he pins in one attempt. 

Hempel is starting to endure some treble-less visits, leaving the door ajar for Gurney. Three goes at 24 earns him the second leg, putting him one leg away from the match victory.

Suddenly, the German is looking frustrated. Gurney has just taken total control in the last few legs. Hempel gets three goes at double 18 and eventually gets double 9 to claw a leg back.

Gurney is now throwing for the match with the darts in hand. Max number five from Gurney puts him in command of the leg. Hempel responds with a 180 of his own, Gurney leaves 96 but misses a match dart at tops.

Hempel requires 80 to steal the leg, but he goes under the wire. Gurney takes out the double 10 to fight back and win the match 3-2. He's got Clayton in the next round!

20:59 GMT - Gurney grabs the first leg with the darts but Hempel quickly pegs him back. Gurney finally lands his first 180 of the match. Hempel returns with one of his own.

Gurney fights off Hempel to take the third leg with a tidy double 9. Another max for Gurney, the Northern Irishman looking more mischievous as the match rumbles on.

Hempel takes out 54 to level the set again. Gurney, ranked 26th, throws first in the fifth. Gurney leaves 24 for the set, which he duly dispatches. We go to a deciding set!

20:49 GMT - Hempel throws first in the third set, opening with a 140. Hempel looks for 109 but can't find it. He comes back for 52 to take the first leg and hold his throw.

Hempel leaves a big fish but only manages 96. He comes back for 74, which he takes out via bull. It's a break of thro,w and he's now one leg away from the set.

Hempel hits the fourth match 180 and is averaging much higher than his opponent in this third set, which he sinks quickly to make it 2-1.

20:38 GMT - Gurney with the darts at the start of the second set. He just misses 121. He comes back for 28, which does go for the first leg.

Hempel leaves 112 in the next leg but misses the treble. He comes back for double 6 and eventually takes out double 3.

Gurney takes a 2-1 set after taking out 68. Hempel responds with a couple of good visits. Both averaging over 100 in the set so far. Hempel has the darts and leaves 36, but Gurney takes out a tremendous 156 to wrap up the set and make it 1-1.

20:27 GMT - Some 140s from both get us started in the opening leg. Hempel steps up for tops but can't take it out. Gurney takes out 72 for an unexpected early break.

Hempel takes double 6 to level the set at 1-1. He rocks in the first 180 of the match in the next leg. The German steps up for 76, which he pins to hold, making it 2-1. He sticks another max to set up a nine-darter but misses on the fifth.

Against the throw, Hempel gets to 60 but misses. Gurney fails on 74, and Hempel takes out double 10 for the first set.

20:10 GMT - A 92 average and over 55 per cent on the doubles in an impressive performance from Pukachu there.

Daryl Gurney and Florian Hempel are up on stage next.

20:02 GMT - Van Veen is struggling to find his doubles as the fourth set starts, but he eventually gas double 4 to make it 1-0.

A 60 set up for the hold for Pikachu, which he takes out to make it 1-1. He then takes out an opportunity at 64 with a nice two-dart finish to put him one leg away from the match - and with the darts.

Van Veen is fighting for his life here, hitting a series of 140s. He can't take out 77, giving Pietrecxko two match darts at 54. Amid a few boos Pikachu takes out tops at the first attempt to take the match 3-1.

19:53 GMT - Pikachu starts off the third set with a 140. He takes out a stunning 122 to hold throw. 

Van Veen throws well during his leg but Pikachu is looking lively, expertly taking out 74 in three darts to break and make it 2-0.

With 104, the German can't quite find the finish and slows things down a touch. Van Veen can't take out 140, so Pietreczko steps up to take out 56, which goes via tops to make it 2-1 in sets.

19:40 GMT - Van Veen starts the second set with the darts and bags his first 180 of the match. He then takes a 127 out nicely to hold the first leg.

Pietreczko keeps the pace up with the darts and races to a 32 finish, which he takes out in two darts: 1-1. The third leg goes to Van Veen after a thumping 73 checkout to make it 2-1. 

Both players are averaging near enough bang on 90 at this point in the match. Pikachu narrowly misses a 117 checkout, allowing Van Veen in to take tops and break for a level match in sets.

19:27 GMT - Pietreczko starts with a big 180. He's already playing with the crowd, throwing just 23 in his next three darts. Van Veen looks for an early break but misses the 62. He comes back but misses three more leg darts, meaning Pikachu holds despite the pressure via tops.

Second 180 for Pietreczko in the second leg. Van Veen just misses a 76 checkout. Pikachu pins double 10 to break, making it 2-0 in legs.

The German then races through the third and steps up to take out double 8 and eventually double for a 1-0 lead.

19:02 GMT - First up tonight we have Gian van Veen versus Ricardo 'Pikachu' Pietreczko.

Can the Belgian overcome the electrifying German?

It's the world 28 against the world 34.

18:43 GMT - Rob Cross returns to Alexandra Palace tonight. Can he double his tally of world titles this year?

He'll be fancying his chances with some of the seeded players already exiting. He faces a stiff challenge in Scott Williams tonight, though.

17:25 GMT - That's all for the afternoon session but the evening matches get underway in around two hours - which we'll again be covering for you!

17:18 GMT - It goes all the way to sudden death but Clayton comes out on top in a thoroughly entertaining second-round tie against Mansell!

6-5: Clayton misses D10 but then makes up for it with D5 on his next turn, securing a spot in the third round after a hard-fought match with Mansell.

5-5: It's level between Clayton and Mansell, as the latter hits a 140 and then a 180 on his way to levelling the tie - sending the match to sudden death.

5-4: Clayton races into the lead as we approach the hour-mark. One leg away from a spot in the next round.

4-4: What a game this has been - it's Clayton's turn to break Mansell now and force another leg.

3-4: Now it's Mansell's turn to mount another comeback, breaking Clayton's throw to lead at Ally Pally. He's one leg away from a huge victory.

3-3: Mansell just doesn't know when he's beaten, battling to a third leg in this enthralling final set.

3-2: Clayton wins his third consecutive leg leaving him on the brink of a spot in the third round - hitting a ten-dart finish in the process.

2-2: What a finish that is from Clayton, who hits a 114 checkout to level the final set. The match must now be won by two clear legs.

1-2: Clayton hits back to steal a leg in the deciding set, holding his throw to force himself back in the match.

0-2: That is outstanding from Mansell, who checks out at 154 to move one leg away from a spot in the third round!

0-1: Manswell with a 136 checkout to lead the first and final set! What a comeback this has been from the Northern Irishman.

16:46 GMT - Mansell hits back to level the match at 2 seats each!

1-3: What a fourth-set performance from Mansell, who takes advantage of some poor darts from Clayton to level the match at two sets each.

1-2: Mansell is coming back into the tie now with another good showing, leading the fourth set 2-1.

1-1: Clayton levels up with a checkout from 29.

1-0: That's more like it from Mansell, who takes the lead in the fourth set

16:35 GMT - There's another set for Clayton, who has found his groove now.

3-0: There's a third and final leg in the third set for Clayton, who now leads 2-1 after losing the first set to Mansell.

2-0: Mansell has his throw broken by Clayton, with the Welshman powering through the gears now

1-0: Clayton takes his fourth leg in a row in swift fashion.

16:23 GMT - Clayton cruises to the second set against Mansell.

3-0: Easy as you like for Clayton, who levels up the match at a set each without dropping a leg.

2-0: Much more like it this time from Clayton, who races into a two-leg lead,

1-0: Clayton breaks Mansell's throw to take the first leg of the second set.

16:09 GMT - Mansell puts in a battling performance to just edge the first set against Clayton.

2-3: Mansell breaks Clayton's throw to take the first set!

2-2: Nothing to separate the two players so far as Mansell wins another leg to level proceedings.

2-1: Time for Clayton to hit back again, taking a 2-1 lead in the first set against Mansell.

1-1: Mansell hits D20 to bounce back and level things up in the first set.

1-0: Clayton takes the first leg of the first set.

15:44 GMT - Time for our final match of the afternoon session as Jonny Clayton takes on Mickey Mansell!

15:41 GMT - Rock cruises to victory against Griffin, dropping just two legs in the entire match.

3-0: There's the victory for Roch who checks out at 61 to advance to the third round - also pushing into the top 16 in the world in the process.

2-0: Rock eventually breaks Griffin with D2 after almost grabbing a nine-darter - one more leg and he's into the third round.

1-0: Rock is powering through the legs now, taking a 1-0 lead in the third and potentially final set.

15:33 GMT - There's the second set for Rock despite being pushed close by Griffin.

3-2: Griffin misses a golden chance to take the set but can't capitalise and Rock breaks the Welshman to lead 2-0.

2-2: D8 from Rock brings the second set level again - a much tighter match playing out than we saw in the first set.

1-2: There's another leg for Griffin who checks out from 32 to edge back ahead against Rock.

1-1: Rock hits back with his first leg of the second set, hitting T20, D10 to level the set.

0-1: Griffin has his first leg of the match after a fantastic 110 checkout.

15:20 GMT - Rock takes the first set against Griffin without dropping a leg.

3-0: There's a 70 checkout from Rock who cruises through the first set despite a poor average at 77.74. Griffin has had his chances to get back into the match but so far hasn't taken them.

2-0: Rock quickly doubles his lead in the first leg, with the world number 18 breaking Griffin's throw at the first time of asking

1-0: It takes 24 darts but Rock wins the opening leg against Griffin!

15:07 GMT - Josh Rock and Rhys Griffin are up to the oche next!

14:59 GMT - Gilding is into the last 32 after a measured performance against Lukeman, triumphing 3-1 against his fellow Englishman.

3-2: Gilding lands D20 to seal his spot in the third round despite a spirited performance from Lukeman

2-2: Lukeman levels up after Gilding misses another four match darts!

2-1: That's an exceptional 101 checkout from Lukeman who keeps his tournament alive after Gilding missed a match dart at D20.

2-0: There's another leg for Gilding who is completely dominant now, breaking Lukeman's throw again - he's one away from the third round.

1-0: Gilding has a potential 10-dart leg but misses his chance before eventually taking the first leg of the fourth set with a D1 checkout.

14:50 GMT - Gilding edges back in front after a superb comeback in the third set.

3-2: Gilding takes the third set with an excellent comeback after being two legs down. He's one set away from the third round.

2-2: This is more like it from Gilding, who levels up the third set. Lukeman had looked like running away with things just minutes earlier.

1-2: An important dart from Gilding stops the rot, wot the Englishman eventually hitting D3 to win his first leg of set three.

0-2: Lukeman is in his groove now after breaking Gilding once more to take a 2-0 lead in the third set.

0-1: Gilding just misses out on a huge 136 checkout before Lukeman swoops in with D20 to take a fourth consecutive leg.

14:31 GMT - Lukeman hits back with an excellent second set!

0-3: A couple of stray darts from Gilding opens to door for Lukeman to break again and the Englishman takes his chance well to level the match at a set each.

0-2: That's a fantastic finish from Lukeman, who checks out at 96 to take a second leg.

0-1: Lukeman breaks Gilding's throw to win his first leg of the match.

14:19 GMT - Gilding wins the first set in today's second afternoon match.

3-0: Gilding takes the first set with relative ease despite a slow start, leaving Lukeman with work to do.

2-0: Much more convincing from Gilding this time who takes a 2-0 lead in the first set after a 54 checkout.

1-0: Gilding breaks Lukeman at the first time of asking after both players miss several opportunities to take the leg. Sloppy start so far from both Gilding and Lukeman.

14:10 GMT - Time for our second match of the afternoon now as Martin Lukeman takes on Andrew Gilding!

14:00 GMT - Ratajski seals a 3-1 win against Toylo to book a spot in the third round against Kevin Doets.

3-1: Ratajski breaks Toylo in the final leg of the match to advance to the third round!

2-1: One more leg will do it for Ratajski as he races through the third leg of the fourth set to lead once more.

1-1: Toylo continues to heap on the pressure, levelling up the fourth set 1-1.

1-0: Ratajksi races into an early lead after hitting 103 to take the first leg of the fourth set.

13:40 GMT - Toylo hits back to take the third set!

2-3: There's a big twist! Toylo hits back to take his first set and now Ratajski has to do it all over again.

2-2: Ratajski answers back in similar fashion with a 25 checkout of his own to level up the third set again.

1-2: There's a second leg for Toylo, who checks out at 25 to retake the lead in this third set.

1-1: Toylo misses a golden chance to break Ratajski's throw and is punished swiftly after as the Pole levels with his first leg of the third set.

0-1: Toylo is looking to make an unlikely comeback and does well by taking the first leg - Ratajski not at it so far!

13:28 GMT - The second set goes to Ratajski, who is now just one set away from the third round.

3-2: Equally brilliant from Ratajski who takes the second leg with a 76 checkout after Toylo had heaped the pressure on with a 140 just before.

2-2: Outstanding from Toylo! He hits a 95 checkout when needed most to level up the second set - Ratajski was sat waiting on D16.

2-1: Ratajski hits back to take the third leg with Toylo now struggling to keep pace.

1-1: Toylo misses D8 but then hits D4 to level up the second set. Just the one 180 in the match so far if you were wondering!

1-0: Ratajski holds firm to take the first leg of the second set, checking out at 78 with 18, 20, D20!

13:05 GMT - Ratajski takes the first set despite a magnificent 160 checkout from Toylo.

3-1: The first set goes to Ratajski, who missed a couple of darts at D18 and D14 to seal it before eventually landing D7 on his third attempt.

2-1: Toylo hits a huge 160 checkout to take his first leg of the match!

2-0: Toylo has missed a couple of darts already, the first to win the opening leg and now the second. Ratajski makes him pay with a routine D12 to take the second leg.

1-0: Ratajski leads after hitting D20, with Toylo missing the same shot just before to miss out on the first leg of the match.

12:50 GMT - Here we go! Ratajski and Toylo are out and ready to get underway.

12:40 GMT - We're just awaiting the first match of the afternoon session, set to begin shortly! Stick with us for all the key updates.

12:30 GMT - Good afternoon and welcome back to our Darts Tracker for day nine of the PDC World Championship!

We've got four games to cover in today's early session at Alexandra Palace, starting with Krzysztof Ratajski taking on Alexis Toylo in the opener at 12:40.

Jonny Clayton is also in action later on in the afternoon session as well as Rob Cross and Dave Chisnall later this evening.
