Luke Littler produced a statement performance in Wigan to win Players Championship 32 on Wednesday, confirming his qualification for next month’s Players Championship Finals and defying suggestions he might miss the cut.

The reigning world champion entered the final event under real pressure, sitting 67th in the Players Championship Order of Merit and needing a deep run to keep his season alive.

By the end of the night, there was no doubt. Littler dismantled Dutch newcomer Dennie Olde Kalter 8-2 in the final, averaging a blistering 110.73 and firing in 10 180s to secure his third PDC title of the year.

"I'm really happy to come away with a win," Littler told the PDC.

"At the start of the day, it was just about getting through the early stages, and you need to believe in yourself."

Littler had begun Wednesday knowing a poor showing could cost him a place at the Minehead finals.

The 18-year-old responded in ruthless fashion, averaging over 102 across seven matches and 109.45 in a semi-final victory over world number four Stephen Bunting.

"Trying to qualify for Minehead was at the back of my mind," Littler admitted.

"I had seen some people on social media say I wasn't going to make it, but I'm very happy with the way I played."

Earlier in the day, he had beaten Dylan Slevin, Jeffrey de Graaf, Adam Lipscombe, Adam Hunt and Rhys Griffin to reach the last four without ever appearing in trouble.

Littler's victory lifts him comfortably into the top 64 for the Players Championship Finals, which will be held in Minehead, Somerset, from November 21st. The event will feature the year's most consistent performers across 34 Players Championship tournaments.

While Littler celebrated another milestone, there was disappointment for Michael van Gerwen.

The three-time world champion, who withdrew from the Wigan double-header, will miss the finals for the first time after slipping outside the qualifying spots.
