World Darts Championship finalist Gian van Veen will miss Night Seven of the Premier League Darts in Dublin, the PDC announced this on Thursday morning.

According to the press statement, Van Veen has been diagnosed with kidney stones. As a result, the Dutchman currently has to stay in hospital, making a trip to Dublin impossible.

"Right up until the very last moment, my biggest goal was to step onto that stage tonight, but sometimes things are just out of your control," he wrote on Instagram.

"The pain started on Sunday morning, but it got much worse after I returned home from Gottingen. I’ve been in hospital since (Wednesday) and I hope to be able to go home either today or tomorrow."

For Premier League record winner Michael van Gerwen, who would have faced his compatriot in the first round, this means a bye into the semifinals and a guaranteed two points.

For 'Mighty Mike', who himself missed Night Three due to health reasons, these are his first points since Night Two. Most recently, he was eliminated in the opening round four times in a row.
