The African Cup of Nations (AFCON) is well underway, and in Group C, Nigeria meets Tunisia in a game between two nations that hold hopes of winning the entire tournament.
Nigeria got past a stubborn Tanzania side 2-1 in their first game thanks to a brilliant goal from Ademola Lookman. The Atalanta forward is set to be a big player for the Super Eagles in the tournament, as he has before, and will try to lead the 2023 beaten finalists to victory in this match too.
Tunisia comfortably defeated Uganda 3-1 in the first game of the group, already doing better than they did in the 2023 edition, where they did not win a game. They now sit top of the group and will want to confirm their qualification to the next round with a win here.

Whilst Nigeria score a lot, they also concede a fair bit. In six of the Super Eagles' last seven games, both teams have scored, which has seen them give away key leads, like in the World Cup Qualifying match against DR Congo that they lost on penalties in the end. Tunisia have a very similar record to Nigeria in their matches, with six of their last eight seeing both teams score. With both having such strong scoring prowess, this match will likely see both teams score again.

Ademola Lookman to hit the target
There is no doubting that Ademola Lookman is a talisman for Nigeria. Lookman scored three goals in the 2023 edition of AFCON, scoring both goals in the 2–0 win over Cameroon, before scoring their only goal in the 1–0 win over Angola. He has started this tournament well, scoring against Tanzania in the first game and is set to be a danger to Tunisia. Rather than goals, I would back Lookman to get a shot on target, as he has done in five of his last six games for club and country. It is an easier bet to come in, and Lookman has a knack for getting off good shots. At 4/6 at bet365, this seems like good odds considering his reliability at hitting the target.

There will be at least a goal
This is a bet that is being played on the safe side. Eight of Tunisia's last 11 games have featured over 2.5 goals, whereas all seven of Nigeria’s last seven games have seen 2+ goals. The stats look like we should be in for a goal fest, yet when the two teams have faced each other, two of the last three have ended 1-0 to either team. If we are to believe that both teams will score, as has happened in three of the last five, then playing it safe feels pointless.
