Bayern Munich secured a 10th successive Bundesliga home win as they saw off Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 at the Allianz Arena, emphatically re-establishing their eight-point lead at the top of the table thanks to a competition record-extending 43rd home head-to-head win.

After a pair of uninspiring performances against Bayer Leverkusen and Celtic over the last week, Vincent Kompany’s men made a slow start here. And they were nearly made to pay the price for that after losing possession in their own third, but Hugo Ekitike could only lash his strike wide of the target.

The Rekordmeister got to grips with the contest from there, and were only denied an opener by a goalline block from Rasmus Kristensen to deny Jamal Musiala. That chance was instigated by Michael Olise who was wreaking havoc down the right, firing a close-range shot wide early on before forcing Kevin Trapp to parry his low drive.

Thomas Müller – deputising for Harry Kane in the starting XI – was next to threaten a Bayern goal, but Trapp was also equal to his long-range strike.

The hosts lost Joshua Kimmich to injury before the break, but that didn’t stop them edging ahead in first-half stoppage time, when Leroy Sane’s cutback was steered into an empty net by Olise, who has now scored in back-to-back matches against Frankfurt

The visitors’ poor finish to the first half prompted Dino Toppmoller into a double change at the break, but there was little change to the pattern of play, and Bayern doubled their lead on the hour mark.

It was a horror moment for the usually-reliable Trapp, who flapped at thin air when attempting to punch a corner clear of danger, with the ball instead landing at the near post for Hiroki Ito to steer home his first goal for the Bavarians.

That goal knocked the wind out of the visitors, and there would be no escaping a third goal in the end, as Musiala worked his magic by weaving inside and out of defenders, before picking himself up from a challenge and drilling an effort past Trapp.

A statement win from the best home side in Europe’s top five leagues was capped off by a 92nd-minute strike from Serge Gnabry, while Frankfurt’s unbeaten run in the Bundesliga ends at seven matches – just a week before they take on defending champions Bayer Leverkusen.
