Arsenal will be hoping that they can go one better than last week against Bayer Leverkusen in their last 16 tie of the UCL.

Leverkusen went 1-0 up last week thanks to a header from Robert Andrich at a corner, with the irony of the corner masters falling on their sword not lost on many. Arsenal rallied back and got a penalty late on, which was dispatched by Leverkusen academy graduate Kai Havertz.

With the tie balanced neatly, the two do battle at the Emirates on Tuesday night with Arsenal being the favourites to progress, and Leverkusen ready to beat the odds.

Arsenal team news

Arsenal are set to be without right-back Jurrien Timbur on Tuesday. The Dutch defender limped off in the 37th minute of Saturday’s win against Everton with a leg issue.

It came after an earlier clash with Iliman Ndiye, and he was unable to shake it off. Cristhian Mosquera replaced Timbur on Saturday, and it will be between him and Ben White as to who starts this game.

16-year-old winger Max Dowman became the youngest Premier League goalscorer ever with his breakaway effort in the 97th minute of the Everton game.

Whilst he may not start this game, the confident and talented young man could make a great impact from the bench against Leverkusen if he is called upon.

Coach: Mikel Arteta

Raya; Mosquera, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapié; Zubimendi, Rice, Eze; Saka, Havertz, Martinelli.

Bayer Leverkusen team news

Bayer Leverkusen will have to wait and see if Martin Terrier will be able to start against Arsenal. The French attacker came off at just two minutes into the second half against Bayern Munich on the weekend because of the effects of an injury caused by a horror tackle from Nicolas Jackson in the first half.

Jackson saw red for the tackle in the first half, and it seemed as if Terrier would be okay, but he eventually could not continue.

Aleix Garcia, who was a key feature of Leverkusen’s good play against Arsenal, may also miss Tuesday’s tie.

He had to leave the pitch against Bayern due to an injury, leaving Leverkusen with two significant injury scares to their first team.

Head-to-Head record

After last week, the head-to-head record between the two reads two draws and one Arsenal win in competitive matches. Adding in friendlies, and it adds one to Arsenal’s win column.

Last week’s draw stopped Arsenal’s four-game win streak, but they returned to winning ways on Saturday against Everton. Arsenal’s unbeaten run has thus extended to 13 games in all competitions with only three draws in that run.

Bayer Leverkusen drew on the weekend at home to Bayern Munich, which means that in their last six games, they have drawn five and won one. Their last loss came to Union Berlin back on February 21, so they are on a good unbeaten run themselves.

Odds for Bayer Leverkusen v Arsenal
