The final matchday of the UEFA Champions League for the calendar year took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, where four more clubs secured a place in the knockout round. Here is a stat from each of the 18 contests.

Atalanta come from behind to edge Chelsea as Liverpool topple Inter

4 - Gelson Martins scored the goal that gives Olympiakos Piraeus hope of getting past the league phase. The Greek champions defeated Kairat Almaty 1-0 in Astana, practically eliminating their opponents in the process. It was a key result for Thrylos, who jump up to 29th spot. Kairat are now bottom of the pile, having failed to score in their last four home ties in Europe stretching back to the playoff round.

21 - Bayern Munich were able to recover from a 1-0 deficit against Sporting CP, with three goals in 12 minutes helping them to a 3-1 win. The Bavarians march on to the knockout stage with two games to spare, and will now push to claim a top eight place and avoid the knockout playoffs. Sporting are still in a good position to advance, with one more point from their final two expected to push them over the line. In the meantime, they have lost 21 times against German teams in Europe.

13 - Belgium's Union Saint-Gilloise will be left ruing their chances as the group phase debutants fell 3-2 to Olympique Marseille. Twice did Les Unionistes have a goal get called back, both times due to offside. It leaves the French club set to make it past this round of the tournament for the first time in 14 years. Union have now lost their last four home ties in Europe, conceding 13 times in those defeats.

14 - Two goals in four minutes early in the second half proved to be game-changer for Atletico Madrid in their 3-2 defeat of PSV Eindhoven. Alexander Sorloth's marker in the 56th minute was the decisive moment, with Diego Simeone's men able to hold firm and get over the line. Atleti are now in the top eight with a pair of matches left, and will have hopes of remaining there come the end of January. PSV have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last 14 continental outings.

0 - It was another strong performance from Tottenham at home. Last season's Europa League champions benefitted from a first half own goal along with two second half penalties in their 3-0 success against Slavia Praha. Thomas Frank's men are now just outside of the top eight, as they claimed their sixth victory over a Czech club in eight games (6-2-1). Incredibly, Spurs are the only team not to have conceded a goal at home in this season's league phase.

49 - Galatasaray have once again been beaten in the UCL, losing 1-0 once more. This time, it was AS Monaco who were the victors in what was an important result for them. Folarin Balogun got the game's only goal to put Les Monegasques on nine points along with their Turkish opponents. It is a rare occasion where Galatasaray get shut out in consecutive European games. In fact, between the last time it happened six years ago and now, 49 games had passed excluding the back-to-back blanks.

5 - Atalanta have guaranteed themselves a place in the top 24 thanks to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory at home to last term's Conference League winners Chelsea. Charles De Ketelaere, who assisted on the equaliser, struck in the final 10 minutes to give La Dea three pivotal points at the top. The Blues have failed to win any of their three away matches in the UCL this term. Their winless run on the road in the competition is now at five (0-1-4), stretching back to the 2023/24 edition.

19 - Speaking of turnarounds, Barcelona also had to show their mettle in their return to the Camp Nou. But, defender Jules Kounde scored twice in three minutes to turn things around for the defending LaLiga champions in a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. While a place in the top eight looks challenging for the Catalans, they still have a shot after recovering from their matchday 5 defeat. Barca had 19 attempts in their win, the most they have had in their home games.

11 - A late Dominik Szoboszlai goal from the spot sealed a narrow 1-0 Liverpool win at the expense of Inter Milan at San Siro. The victory puts the Reds back in the running for a place in the last 16. They sit in ninth spot on goals scored, but will surely see the final two games as must-win. It was a disappointing setback for Inter, who conceded late goals in their last two ties. Their reverse ended an 11-match unbeaten run at home in group phases (10-1-0).

Arsenal cruise in Belgium as Benfica keep hopes alive

3 - An Oscar Gloukh double gave Ajax what could be considered as a consolation win in Azerbaijan as they topped Qarabag 4-2. Even if the Dutch giants were to win out, it is unlikely to be enough for them to get past this stage. As for Qarabag, who led in the match twice, they missed out on a golden opportunity to increase their hopes of ending the league phase in the top 24. It was the third time this season they have scored multiple goals at home, and still fail to come out on top.

16 - FC Kobenhavn can now dream of making the Champions League knockout rounds in their second straight appearance thanks to a 3-2 victory at Villarreal. Andreas Cornelius netted the winner in the last minute of normal time to power the Danes to a second straight win and the last place in the top 24. With one point from six games, Villarreal will not be playing in the competition past January. Meanwhile, FCK, have defeated a Spanish club for the first time at the 16th time of asking.

7 - Athletic Bilbao earned what has to be considered as their best result in this season's UCL, holding the defending champions Paris Saint-Germain to a 0-0 draw at San Mames. The Basque club had just 28% of the possession in the match, but still did enough to thwart their French opponents. PSG still have the most goals scored in the league phase this term with 19 from their previous five games. However, Athletic have now failed to score in a UCL game for the seventh time, more than a third of the time.

1 - A back-and-forth encounter between Bayer Leverkusen and Newcastle ended honours even in Germany. Both clubs took the lead at one point, but had to ultimately settle for a point each in a 2-2 stalemateDie Werkself, now unbeaten in their last three, still have work to do in order to advance. As for the Magpies, they are in a slightly better spot, though one more point should be enough. It was the first time in five head-to-heads between the two that there was no winner.

10 - Jose Mourinho's Benfica have won consecutive games after losing their opening four. This time, Napoli were the victims as As Aguias picked up a vital 2-0 result. A goal in either half gave the two-time European Cup winners their second win over the Partenopei. Antonio Conte's charges are one of four teams not to have picked up a point on their travels so far in the league phase, having conceded 10 times in the process.

18 - Arsenal kept up their strong showing in this season's UCL with a 3-0 defeat of Club Brugge on the road. Noni Madueke got two of the three goals for the Gunners, who are all but secured an automatic round of 16 place with their sixth win in as many matches. Perhaps the scoreline was a bit flattering in their favour. After all, the Belgians mustered 18 attempts in the game, seven more than any other team have managed in this term's league phase.

32 - Borussia Dortmund's UCL matches tend to be the entertaining ones of the lot. This time, the Germans were pegged back twice by Bodo/Glimt, having to settle for a point in the 2-2 draw. Julian Brandt put Die Schwarzgelben ahead twice, but they could not hold on in the end. Dortmund, along with PSG, have the most goals scored, but the former have a total of 32 goals across the six games involving them, averaging more than five a tie.

15 - Manchester City came from a goal down to pile further pressure on Real Madrid. The 2-1 victory propelled the Cityzens to fourth spot with two matches remaining. Both teams are in the top eight, and will be striving to maintain those spots to avoid a knockout round playoff. City's win in the Spanish capital was their 15th over LaLiga opponents, Only against German teams do they have more victories (24).

27 - Juventus continue their perfect record versus Cypriot clubs with a 2-0 success versus Paphos. Weston McKennie and Jonathan David decided the game six minutes apart as the Bianconeri prevail for the second matchday in a row. All hope is not yet lost for Paphos, though they will likely need at least four points from their final two games if they are to become the second club from their country in the UCL knockout stage. Juve have scored 27 times across seven outings against teams from Cyprus.
