Eintracht Frankfurt host Tottenham Hotspur in a match that has been a regular feature on the continental cup competition circuit in recent years, with both having a very different time of it in the UEFA Champions League.

Frankfurt have only won one game out of seven (D1, L6) and sit 33rd out of 36 teams in the league phase. That solitary win came in the first game of the competition, and they have the joint-most goals conceded (19). A win against familiar oponents Spurs, seems unlikely based on past meetings and on current form, but Frankfurt need something to change and soon.

Spurs, meanwhile, are terrible in the Premier League but doing quite well in Europe. They have not won in their last six domestic games, but have only lost once in the UCL so far this season (W4, D1). They sit fifth in the UCL table and know that a win here would guarantee their progress to the last-16, something that would be music to the fans' ears.

Frankfurt team news

Frankfurt will be without ex-Chelsea player Michy Batshuayi, who is recovering from a broken ankle, and Jonathan Burkardt, who is out with a calf injury. With two forwards out, Frankfurt acted in January and brought in Nottingham Forest forward Arnaud Kalimuendo on loan. He scored on the weekend but cannot feature in the Champions League as he is ineligible.

Apart from that, Frankfurt have a full squad to choose from. The question then becomes whether manager Dino Toppmoller will give players a rest, hoping that the extended break will do well for them in the league, or play a full-strength squad and hope his players can play back into form. Time will tell.

Frankfurt predicted lineup v Tottenham, (3-4-3)

Coach: Dino Toppmoller

Kaua; Collins, Koch, Theate; Kristiansen, Skhiri, Larsson, Brown; Doan, Knauff, Uzun

Tottenham team news

Spurs can practically make up an eleven from players who are currently injured. Lucas Bergvall, Ben Davies, Rodrigo Bentancur, Richarlison, Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison are all sidelined with both Pedro Porro and Cristian Romero going off against Burnley on the weekend with injury scares. Manager Thomas Frank has allayed fears that Porro and Romero’s injuries will see them out for this game, but it is a concerning sight for all involved with the club to see so many players on the injury list.

There is some good news, though, that midfielder Joao Palhinha may return for the trip to Frankfurt, and Frank will desperately need him with new signing Conor Gallagher being ineligible to play in the UCL for Spurs yet. If is not fit the Archie Gray or Pape Matar Sarr may see more game time.

Head-to-Head record

This will be the fourth meeting between Frankfurt and Spurs since 2022. They played each other in the group stages of the 2022/23 UCL and the quarter-finals of the Europa League in 2024/25. Overall, Spurs lead the head-to-head record 2-0, with two of those four games being draws, with Frankfurt having failed to score in their last two home matches against Tottenham.

Eintracht Frankfurt have only won one of the seven times they’ve hosted an English side in a major European competition this century (D3 L3), with that lone victory coming against West Ham in the UEFA Europa League in May 2022. They have already lost to an English side at home in this season’s UCL, being battered by Liverpool 5-1 in October.

Neither team come into this game in great form. Frankfurt have not won in six in all competitions, and Spurs have only won once in their last seven.
