Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest on Saturday put a nail in the coffin for Slot’s title hopes, which many feel have been over and done with for a number of weeks as league leaders Arsenal run away with the title.
The loss left them 12th in the table, 11 points behind the Gunners, who will not be worried about the champions any more despite being pitted against them at the start of the season.
Liverpool signed Alexander Isak from Newcastle for a transfer record of £125 million after they had already snatched up Hugo Ekitike from Frankfurt for £69 million. However, the pair have been rotated for each other so far and have not spent time on the pitch playing off one another.
Ahead of the club’s fixture against PSV, Tribal Football spoke to Hamann in association with CoinPoker about how Slot must start to use Isak and Ekitike together if they are to succeed at the club whose attack have been toothless in attack so far.
“Arne Slot has to do something. You can't keep picking the same players and expect a different performance or result. It's probably worth considering playing two up front, especially if you bring in two players for over a hundred million. He must have thought there was a chance to get them both on the pitch.
“You don't want a £100 million striker sitting on the bench as a backup. He needs to stop worrying about names now, whoever they are. He has to pick a team that gives them the best chance to win games.
“They have a Champions League game now. Some of their best performances have been in the Champions League because it's not as frantic and hectic as the Premier League.
“I'm pretty confident for the midweek game, but then it's West Ham at the weekend, and it'll be a dogfight again. It needs players who are prepared to stand up and be counted.”
Liverpool have won all three previous encounters against the visitors at Anfield ahead of Wednesday’s clash but considering their 3-0 thumping to Forest in front of the home supporters at the weekend, this may not be enough to give them peace of mind.
Slot must find his best side and fast, his title race is already over and claims of him losing his job may become a reality if Liverpool’s form isn’t addressed over the next few weeks.
