Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has spoken to the media ahead of their Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Guardiola’s side have faced Napoli, Monaco and Villarreal so far in the competition, picking up the same amount of points as Dortmund, as both sides sit 6th and 7th.

City have won each of their last 11 competitive home matches against German teams, and have never been beaten by Dortmund on their own patch.

Changing traditions

The Spanish head coach first opened up on moving training to Wednesday morning, the day of their match against Dortmund, instead of today, which is the club’s usual tradition.

"We will train tomorrow morning. No (it is not unusual). I have done it a few times. Not a lot, but I have done it a few times, and sometimes I prefer it. It was such a demanding game against Bournemouth that I prefer today at home, and tomorrow we train."

On Dortmund having an additional day's rest: "We are used to it. It is what is. Nobody is going to change the schedule.

"In Germany, in France, all the teams in the Champions League they try and play on Friday to get more. I don't like it, but it is what it is."

City's impressive home form

Next, he was asked about his team’s run of home games and if that will be a factor in the clash with Dortmund.

"Massively. In all formats. I'm not saying it will be easy because Dortmund in this competition always perform their best. They always arrive in the later stages. But with nine points more we will be qualified and close to be in the first eight."

Is Haaland a leader?

The media then turned to striker Erling Haaland, who is in the form of his life at the moment, as he carries the side with his impressive goal-scoring ability. Guardiola was asked about him being in the leadership group, an impressive feat at just 25 years old.

"It's difficult to find a real world-class player to be incredibly humble.

"I know he will score goals and the impact on the team, but I had the feeling that he always had an eye on what is best for the team.

"That is difficult to find in players of this ability. Erling is like that. it was a surprise because normally strikers just think about goals.

"That is still the best way to help us, but that's why I decided for that because he signed a contract for 10 years.

"As much as he is involved in many things, he will be better."

Are City prepared?

Finally, he was asked if he feels better prepared for the new format this season in what is a revamped league phase that had divided opinion.

"Maybe I have not been clear enough like I have said a thousand, million times. It is not about being not prepared last season. Last season we were injured. Fifty per cent of the squad were injured during months and months, and especially during that period when there are a lot of games.

"Of course we are prepared for the format and for the old one. We will be ready. It is just last season, we had a lot of problems in terms of not having players and that was more difficult."
