Eintracht Frankfurt kept just their third clean sheet in 15 games across all competitions this campaign as they drew 0-0 against Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Both of these teams came into this clash following heavy four-goal margin defeats on matchday three, but with Napoli being top of Serie A and Frankfurt a lowly eighth in the Bundesliga, the hosts were expected to be the dominant force.

And despite Frankfurt having the game’s first chance when Jean-Matteo Bahoya shot straight at Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, that’s how it proved in the opening 45 minutes - albeit to a finite extent.

Far too sloppy in their build-up play, Frankfurt never came close to troubling the shot-stopper again before the break. However, for all their possession, Napoli only forced Michael Zetterer into action on just two occasions.

The first of those saw him smother a Rasmus Hojlund effort from close range, before pushing Eljif Elmas’ shot from just inside the area to safety.

After the interval, Frankfurt were more positive in their play, and tested Milinkovic-Savic a couple of times early on, though the Serbia international easily held Mario Gotze’s header and Fares Chaibi’s low drive.

With a much more even feel to proceedings after the break, Frankfurt’s next shot on target was far more challenging, but the goalkeeper was able to palm Ansgar Knauff’s stinging strike away from goal.

Napoli still posed something of a threat despite Frankfurt’s improved showing, but when they did get themselves into a position to score, Scott McTominay hammered over the crossbar from the middle of the penalty area.

Ultimately, the two sides had to make do with a share of the spoils, which leaves both of them on four points apiece after as many matchdays.

Given Eintracht’s poor defensive record this term - they have shipped 31 goals in 15 games across all competitions - keeping the Italians out will be a welcome outcome for Dino Toppmoller.

Meanwhile, Napoli will feel they should have created more in front of their own supporters, making their clash with Qarabag something of a must-win game if they are to maintain their dwindling chances of automatic progress to the knockout stages.
