Paul Pogba will make his long-awaited return to the pitch this weekend, more than two years away from the pitch.

As reported by L’Equipe, the former Manchester United star is expected to make his debut for AS Monaco this weekend, against Stade Rennais in a momentous game for the midfielder who is hoping to revive his career.

Monaco boss Sebastien Pocognoli is cautious, however, as he hopes to ease him back into the side, so as not to cause further injury.

"My communication will remain down-to-earth, like our internal analysis," he told AFP on Monday.

"I said we'll judge him based on what he offers. That's also out of kindness. I hope he is close to playing.

"But the last time I said that... so I'm trying not to get ahead of myself. It will happen when it's meant to happen. All I can say is that, when he's on the pitch, I see someone who is happy and focused on getting back to the top level. There's no doubt about it."

Pogba has not played since September 2023 due to a doping ban, and this weekend marks one of the most dramatic comebacks in recent years as the Frenchman tries to make a name for himself once more.

Monaco currently sit sixth in Ligue 1, five points shy of a Champions League spot. Pogba and Pocognoli will be hoping to work off each other to try and collect a vital 3 points and avoid any more setbacks for the former Juventus star.
