PSG's run to the final

PSG finished the Champions League opening phase in 15th place, with their stats showing four wins, one draw and three defeats, scoring 14 goals, but conceding nine. A return of 13 points left them three behind Aston Villa and the top eight, narrowly missing out on an automatic spot in the finals. Teams finishing between 9th and 24th entered the playoffs.

Despite failing to impress in the league stage, PSG came alive in the knockout rounds, starting with a stunning 10-0 aggregate win over Brest in the playoffs. They earned a 3-0 win on the road before blasting their way to a memorable 7-0 home victory. Next came Liverpool and a France v England battle that went the distance. Liverpool won 1-0 in Paris, before PSG returned the favour on Merseyside. The last 16 match went to penalties, which PSG won in style, securing a 4-1 advantage from the spot.

After dealing with one of the betting favourites in the now Premier League champions, PSG eliminated another EPL side in Aston Villa. Unlike their match against Liverpool, there were plenty of goals and even more talking points versus Villa. PSG won 3-1 in Paris before battling to a 3-2 defeat in Birmingham, scraping through 5-4 on aggregate.

The semi-final brought the challenge of Arsenal, and it was again advantage France. PSG scored early in London and followed it with a 2-1 win in the French capital for a 3-1 win on aggregate, sending Mikel Arteta's misfiring Gunners spinning out of the running.

Tip: Both score and PSG win is 10/3 (bet365)

Bet explanation: It's a profit if PSG win the match in normal time, but Inter Milan scores at least one goal.

Inter Milan's run to the final

How did Inter Milan's efforts compare to the form of their opponents? The Serie A side ended the regular Champions League season in fourth place behind Liverpool, Barcelona and Arsenal. They returned stats of six wins, one draw and a defeat, scoring 11 goals and conceding just one, giving them the best defence in the competition after eight starts.

A top-eight finish ensured Inter passed the first knockout round, fast-tracked to the last 16 where they brushed aside Dutch team Feyenoord with an impressive 4-1 win on aggregate. Inter did the damage in the first leg when securing a 2-0 away win before adding a 2-1 victory on their patch. The Italians' reward for that result was a tie against Bayern Munich in the quarters.

FCB are one of the main attractions in the Champions League, and many bookmakers priced them as favourites to beat Milan before going on to win the trophy at their stadium. But little goes to plan at this level. Inter Milan ruined a home final with a jaw-dropping 2-1 win in Germany before a 2-2 at home sent Munich out 4-3 on aggregate.

We last saw Inter Milan in Champions League action, clinching a remarkable 7-6 win against Barcelona over two legs. The first game ended 3-3 in Spain, before Milan fired a warning to PSG with a 4-3 win after extra time, ending Barca's dreams. Milan are a free-scoring team, and fans hope that run continues in the deciding match.

If you, too, expect goals in the final, you may wish to bet on a first scorer.

OPTA betting facts show Lautaro Martínez has scored eight goals in his last seven UEFA Champions League appearances for Inter, having 13 shots on target in these appearances (2.2 per 90 minutes). The stage is set for Martinez to steal the show.

Tip: Martinez to score at 2/1 with bet365

Bet explanation: If Martinez scores in 90 minutes, you get the profits.

PSG v Inter Milan betting predictions and odds

Now we've set the scene for a game that will attract a global audience, let's finalise our betting predictions. In the quarter-finals and semi-finals, PSG scored a total of eight goals, while Inter Milan found the net 11 times in the same period.

The head-to-head stats show these teams have never met in competitive action. What better time to end that than the Champions League final, but which team will win? The stats associated with the final show only one team scored in each of the last six renewals, a run stretching back to Real Madrid's 3-1 win over Liverpool in 2018. Do you expect another nervy affair?

Inter Milan's last two Champions League final wins were a 1-0 against Benfica in 1965 and a 2-0 over Bayern Munich in 2010. Finals are usually tense affairs, and I keep that in mind when picking my best bet. Follow the stats, rely on Milan's experience, and side with a narrow win.

Tip: Inter Milan win to nil @ 5/1

Bet explanation: Your bet lands if Inter Milan wins the match in regulation time without PSG scoring a goal.
