Real Madrid will be looking to confirm their status as favourites and build on their first-leg victory in the return of this tense tie against José Mourinho’s Benfica, with Mourinho unable to be on the bench for his return to the Santiago Bernabéu. The Portuguese side must go on the attack to try and overturn the 0-1 deficit from Lisbon, so we can expect a very different match to the first leg, with more space for the pace of Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius, and a more ambitious attacking approach from the Lisbon team than we saw previously. The last league phase match (4-2) might give us a glimpse of the style Mourinho’s side will aim for.

Real Madrid v Benfica tips

Both teams to score – 8/13 @ bet365

Over 2.5 goals – 4/9 @ bet365

Madrid to score between two and six goals – 4/9 @ bet365

Goals from both sides

Benfica need to score to progress. They have no other option, and they do have the attacking quality to find the net, as they showed in the last league phase match. In fact, Mourinho’s team have scored two or more goals in five of their last seven games across all competitions. As for Real Madrid’s attacking power, they’ve scored in 17 consecutive matches and have only failed to find the net once at home (against Celta) this season. We expect both teams to score, which has happened in five of Madrid’s last seven home games.

Tip: Both teams to score – 8/13 @ bet365

Bet Explanation: This prediction wins if both teams manage to score at least one goal

Three or more total goals

Another prediction that didn’t come off in the first leg, but did in the match that closed the Champions League league phase. Seven of Madrid’s last 10 home games have seen three or more total goals, which is also the case in four of Benfica’s last six official matches and in six of Alvaro Arbeloa’s side’s eight league phase games.

Tip: Over 2.5 goals  – 4/9 @ bet365

Bet Explanation: This bet wins if the two teams score three or more goals in total during the match, regardless of who scores them.

Madrid to score between two and six goals

We’ve found unusually high odds for such a wide range of goals for Madrid, which is surprising given the attacking talent on display. Madrid have scored two or more goals in 15 of their last 16 official matches (with the first leg of this tie being the only exception). We’ve also seen Madrid score between two and six goals in 12 of their last 15 home games across all competitions (the exceptions being Juventus, Manchester City and Celta).

Tip: Madrid to score between two and six goals – 4/9 @ bet365

Bet Explanation: This bet wins if Madrid score more than one and fewer than seven goals in the match, regardless of the final result.
