Sheffield United will be top at Christmas after a solid 2-0 win away at Cardiff while Leeds are hot on their heels after an emphatic 4-0 victory against Oxford.
Following closely behind are Burnley - who beat Watford 2-1 - and Sunderland, fresh off the back of another comeback win, this time against Norwich.
Just five points separate the top four clubs in the division.
At the other end of the table, there were important victories for Portsmouth and Hull, while Stoke were left without a win in their last eight games.
As always, Flashscore have looked at the major talking points from the weekend's action:

Burnley keep on pushing
Burnley came into the season with a hint of uncertainty surrounding them after several sales of their better players and the departure of manager Vincent Kompany.
His replacement Scott Parker, however, has weathered a difficult start and guided the Clarets back to automatic promotion contenders.
Parker has made his side incredibly difficult to beat with Burnley maintaining the best defensive record in the division having only conceded nine goals.
Their attack could use some work with the Lancashire side rarely 'blowing away' their opposition but the fact is that they often win by narrow margins and very rarely lose - just two defeats all season, a good recipe for promotion.

Burnley's latest triumph came against play-off chasers Watford, with Jaidon Anthony and Josh Brownhill on the scoresheet in a 2-1 victory.
The win makes it nine games without defeat for Parker's side who are keeping pace with Sheffield United and Leeds.
Watford had been on a six-game unbeaten run themselves, making Burnley's win all the more impressive - and important, seeing as both teams above them and Sunderland below also picked up victories.
Plymouth showing fight
Wayne Rooney has been seemingly clinging on to his job at Plymouth for the last few weeks but was handed a lifeline after his side battled to an admirable 3-3 draw against high-flying Middlesbrough.
Argyle have struggled for the vast majority of the campaign and are still without a win since the beginning of November but showed the type of fight they will need if they are to stay up in their latest fixture.
They took the lead three times against Middlesbrough but were ultimately pegged back on each occasion, however, they refused to crumble under pressure and kept on pushing for what will be a valuable point in the long run.
Lewis Gibson, Darko Gyabi and Mustapha Bundu all found the net but were answered each time by Jonny Howson, Hayden Hackney and Emmanuel Latte Lath.
Rooney will be pleased with his side's attacking output, though, and the fact that they showed they can still pull off results against some of the league's better sides - which bodes well for their impending battle to avoid relegation.
A solid January transfer window with some decent investment would give Plymouth a much better chance of survival but their latest result is a good platform to build from heading into a busy festive period.
Burstow hands Hull much-needed win
Mason Burstow was on hand to curl in a fantastic effort during Hull's 2-1 victory against Swansea, taking aim from outside the area and bending an effort into the far corner with immense accuracy.
The Englishman has struggled for regular minutes this season but took his chance over the weekend with a sublime finish that helped Hull to their first win in 13 matches - also winning our Goal of the Week.
Lang nets four for Portsmouth
Portsmouth have enjoyed a resurgence of late, winning three and drawing two of their last six games to pull away from the relegation zone.
Central to their success in the latest 4-1 win against Coventry was Callum Lang, who netted an astounding four goals at Fratton Park.
The forward's performance earned a perfect Flashscore rating of 10, which also makes him our Player of the Week!
