As the first international break of the season approaches, the Championship table has started to take shape following the fourth round of league fixtures.

Middlesbrough remain the only club with a 100% record and top the entire division, while West Brom - also unbeaten with three wins and a draw - follow closely behind in second.

At the other end of the table, Sheffield United sit bottom with zero points, with rivals Sheffield Wednesday just above them.

Here, Flashscore takes stock of the Championship campaign so far after the latest round of fixtures:

Mixed bag for Leicester, Southampton and Ipswich

The three teams relegated from the Premier League have had a mixed start to life back in the Championship, with Leicester pushing the top two, Southampton sat midtable and Ipswich towards the bottom with just three points - but no wins.

Across the latest fixtures, Leicester recorded an excellent 2-0 win over Birmingham - with youngster Jeremy Monga shining once again - while mercurial talent Abdul Fatawu also stood out.

Keeping hold of the Ghanaian winger could prove decisive for the Foxes, and Fatawu can be amongst the Player of the Season nominees come the end of the campaign, given his incredible ability.

Southampton led twice against Watford, only to be pegged back on both occasions by young talents Kwadwo Baah and Nestory Irankuda.

The Saints will be gutted to have thrown away three points, but should be pleased overall with their start to the season and particularly their late additions in the transfer market.

Finn Azaz and Tom Fellows represent elite Championship talent, while the European signings of Caspar Jander, Leo Scienza and Elias Jelert all provide quality depth throughout the squad.

Ipswich were favourites to win the league going into the season, but have started slowly and had to rescue a 2-2 draw against Derby last weekend - with Jack Clarke netting a penalty in the 16th minute of added time.

The Tractor Boys are yet to win a game this seaso,n but have a plethora of options throughout the squad and an exceptional manager in Kieran McKenna.

That sort of talent should be enough to see them out of the slump they find themselves in, ideally sooner rather than later.

Sheffield clubs struggling

Both Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday have seriously struggled so far this season, with the Blades bottom of the league on zero points and the Owls a place above them with just one point.

Wednesday's issues have been well-documented and perhaps don't come as a surprise following major problems with the ownership.

The Owls lost manager Danny Rohl as well as top scorer Josh Windass, and for much of the transfer window were unable to sign any players due to EFL sanctions.

Some loan additions were made towards deadline day, but it feels like too little too late for Henrik Pedersen's side.

They suffered a 2-0 loss at home to Swansea last weekend, with second-half goals from Zan Vipotnik and Ronald sealing Wednesday's third loss of the campaign.

Perhaps more surprisingly, Sheffield United are yet to win a game in the Championship following the appointment of Ruben Selles.

The Blades have faced major changes in the transfer market and haven't spent a huge sum of money despite several high-profile departures.

United have scored just once in the league this season, and things have turned sour quickly - with fans calling for the manager to be sacked after their latest 1-0 defeat against Middlesbrough.

Some late transfer window drama might help set the Blades on the right path, with Ben Mee and Danny Ings adding plenty of important experience, but there is a fast-spreading toxicity at Bramall Lane that needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

Surprise contenders push into top six

Several clubs have emerged as surprise contenders for a top-six challenge in the Championship.

Middlesbrough were widely tipped for midtable before the season began, but have won all four of their matches so far - with the latest an impressive 1-0 win over Sheffield United.

Tommy Conway was on target for the Teesiders, who now sit top of the league as the only club with a 100% record thus far.

Closely behind them are West Brom, who remained unbeaten following a 1-0 win against Stoke.

Nat Phillips grabbed the only goal of the game in a result that becomes all the more impressive because of the opposition's equally strong start to the campaign.

Stoke were top of the league heading into the weekend after three big wins to start the season, but now sit third following the defeat.

Both clubs were expected to be pushing the top half, but have so far surpassed expectations with exceptional performances.

Keep an eye out for last season's play-off contenders in Coventry and Bristol City - both of whom have also started very strongly.

Branagan nets free-kick

Oxford stalwart Cameron Branagan was on target in the Yellows' 2-2 draw with Coventry at the weekend, curling a delightful free-kick into the bottom corner.

His effort stood out on a weekend with several top strikes, including two free-kicks in the same game from Ryan Manning and Nestory Irankuda as Watford drew with Southampton.

We gave it to Irankuda last week, though, and Manning took the award after the opening round of fixtures - so Branagan takes our Goal of the Week this time.

Phillips excels for West Brom

Last weekend's top performer was Nat Phillips of West Brom, who netted the only goal in their 1-0 win over Stoke.

The former Liverpool defender also played his part in keeping a clean sheet to earn a 9.0 Flashscore player rating.
