As 2025 draws to a close, the final round of Championship fixtures before Christmas has now passed, meaning it's time to take a look at all the latest talking points.

Both of the top two, Coventry and Middlesbrough, dropped points over the weekend while QPR picked up a shock 4-1 win over Leicester.

Elsewhere, Birmingham were defeated 3-0 by Sheffield United, and Swansea rescued a late 2-1 win against Wrexham thanks to a shocking goalkeeper error.

Here, Flashscore takes a look at all the major talking points from the latest Championship action.

Coventry and Boro drop points

League leaders Coventry dropped points for the third time in their last four games at the weekend, drawing 1-1 with Southampton.

Ephron Mason-Clark opened the scoring, but the Sky Blues were pegged back by Nathan Wood at the start of the second half - just minutes after a straight red card for Jay Dasilva.

Frank Lampard's side managed to hold on for a valuable point given the circumstances to maintain a six-point lead at the top of the table.

There were some unsavoury scenes at full-time, though, with Lampard gesturing towards the Southampton fans, which in turn started a scuffle between various members of both clubs' playing and coaching staff.

The former England international has since apologised for his language, but also admitted he hoped some of the home fans would do the same.

Elsewhere, Middlesbrough failed to capitalise on Coventry's stumble in a 2-0 loss at the hands of Bristol City.

Goals from Emil Riis and Robert Atkinson saw the Robins earn their first win since November and hand new Boro boss Kim Hellberg his first defeat.

While Ashton Gate is a tough place to go for most teams, Middlesbrough will be disappointed with the result and missing out on the chance to cut the gap to Coventry, who at one point looked like running away with the title.

Both results leave the door slightly ajar for Ipswich to mount a promotion push, who sit third after beating Sheffield Wednesday 3-1.

QPR leave Leicester in dangerous territory

Leicester have struggled with major inconsistency since being relegated from the Premier League last season, and once again were on the wrong end of a poor performance over the weekend.

The Foxes were thrashed 4-1 by QPR on Saturday and dropped to 13th in the table - putting significant pressure on manager Marti Cifuentes.

To make matters worse, their latest defeat came at the hands of Cifuentes' former club, whom he left at the start of the summer.

QPR have enjoyed a solid campaign so far, and the victory boosted them up to seventh in the league, just one point outside the play-off spots.

A first-half barrage from Koki Saito, Richard Kone, Karamoko Dembele and Amadou Salif Mbengue saw the London club come out comfortable winners against the Foxes - despite Silko Thomas netting a consolation goal in the second period.

The result is a welcome one for QPR, who now have five wins from their last seven games, while Leicester must go back to the drawing board once more with Cifuentes under mounting pressure to turn things around.

Birmingham's away form worsens

Birmingham were one of the Championship's dark horses for a play-off finish before the season began after an impressive summer transfer window.

The Blues romped to promotion last term with a record-breaking League One campaign and further improved their squad by adding the likes of Demarai Gray, Patrick Roberts, Tommy Doyle and Kyogo Furuhashi.

That impressive recruitment has placed extra pressure on the manager, Chris Davies, to succeed.

Birmingham currently sit 14th in the table, just six points away from the play-off spots, which for a newly promoted club is undoubtedly a success.

However, with ambitious owners who will be expecting a big return on their summer investment, some progress will be needed in the second half of the season.

The Blues' home form is that of a Championship play-off contender, having lost just once in the league at St Andrews all season, but their away form is definitely a concern.

Davies' side have won just twice away from home in the league so far, and eight of their nine defeats have come on their travels.

Their latest venture across the country saw them lose 3-0 at the hands of Sheffield United, with Tyler Bindon, Gustavo Hamer and Patrick Bamford all finding the net and Doyle picking up a first-half red card.

The loss in isolation is disappointing but not that concerning, given the Blades' resurgence over the last two months, but Davies will need to find a way to address the away form soon for Birmingham to realise their top-six ambitions.

Mbengue nets Goal of the Week

Our Goal of the Week this time around is a bit of a curious one, as we still aren't sure how QPR's Mbengue managed to score from such an impossible angle.

The defender picked up the ball out wide on the right before driving past a couple of Leicester players and firing what looked like a shot into the far corner - although every piece of logic would suggest he should have been crossing from where he was.

Either way, neither he nor QPR will care, and the spectacular effort capped off a superb afternoon for the Londoners.

Hamer shines for the Blades

This week's Player of the Week is Sheffield United star Hamer, who earned a 9.8 Flashscore rating for his performance in the Blades' 3-0 win over Birmingham.

Hamer picked up a goal and an assist during the win to earn the highest rating of any player in the Championship over the weekend, making him our Player of the Week!
