The latest round of Championship fixtures threw up more shocks and surprises, with several big hitters suffering poor results.

Sheffield Wednesday picked up a much-needed 2-0 win over Portsmouth, while neighbours Sheffield United fell to their sixth Championship loss this season.

Elsewhere, Ipswich's match away at Blackburn was abandoned after 80 minutes due to heavy rainfall, with the hosts leading 1-0 and the Tractor Boys down to 10 men.

As always, Flashscore is taking a look at all the talking points from the latest Championship action:

Wilder suffers defeat on return

Sheffield United quickly rehired Wilder following the sacking of Ruben Selles in the hopes of reigniting their season after a dreadful start.

Things didn't quite go to plan on Saturday, though, after Tanto Olaofe netted a 90th-minute winner for Charlton to condemn United to their sixth league defeat of the campaign.

The Blades lost 1-0 at home to the newly promoted club to put an instant dampener on Wilder's return - just three months after he was initially sacked.

United have the worst record in the football league this season, having lost all of their games so far, scoring just one league goal in the process.

"Maybe I was too much on the optimistic side of 'we'll be ok'," Wilder told BBC Sport.

"They (the players) look a little bit fragile and damaged."

To make matters worse, United's neighbours and current partners in the relegation zone, Sheffield Wednesday, got their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory against Portsmouth.

Strikes from veteran Barry Bannan and debutant George Brown saw the Owls pick up a surprise win over Portsmouth, who were three games unbeaten heading into the clash.

Wednesday have had a turbulent time in recent years due to their ownership issues - something that worsened considerably over the summer - and are favourites to drop into League One.

Performances like last weekend give the Owls a fighting chance, though, and they've pulled themselves out of dire situations before.

Things will be harder this time without former manager Danny Rohl - but Wednesday have defied their doubters several times over the last few years.

Title favourites struggle

None of the promotion favourites before the season began picked up wins over the weekend, with Ipswich, Southampton, Leicester and Coventry all struggling - as well as the aforementioned Sheffield United.

Leicester and Coventry played out a goalless draw on Saturday in a result that no doubt suits the Sky Blues more than the Foxes.

Frank Lampard's side are still unbeaten in the league this term and, in large parts, have Carl Rushworth to thank for their latest point.

The young goalkeeper made a staggering nine saves against Leicester to register his second clean sheet of the campaign.

Southampton also faltered after their summer of big spending by falling to defeat away at Hull.

Kyle Joseph, John Lundstram and Oli McBurnie were all on target to hand the Tigers a huge 3-1 victory, with Adam Armstrong bagging a late consolation for the Saints.

Southampton have struggled to get going this season, with their only win coming on the opening day, which leaves them 19th in the table and in need of another win as quickly as possible.

Ipswich sit on the same number of points (six) as the Saints, but at the time of writing, have technically played a game less.

The Tractor Boys' match at Blackburn was abandoned on Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch caused by heavy rainfall, with the referee calling off the encounter after 80 minutes.

Rovers were leading 1-0 at the time and had an extra player after Jacob Greaves was dismissed for the visitors, suggesting they could have been on for a valuable three points.

At the time of writing, nothing has been announced regarding a potential replay or whether Blackburn will be given the three points.

Middlesbrough keep pushing

One side who are continuing to defy expectations is Middlesbrough, who sit top of the league with five wins and one draw following their latest triumph against West Brom.

Rob Edwards' side powered to a 2-1 victory after goals from David Strelec and Mamadou Kaly Sene to remain unbeaten in the league - a start few had forseen before the campaign began.

West Brom are no pushovers either, having won three and drawn one of their opening four matches before losses to Stoke and then Boro.

Things seem to be going very well for Middlesbrough, who have a variety of top players to call on in their squad.

What's most impressive are the summer signings to arrive and immediately hit the ground running, with Strelec, Sene, Matt Targett, Alan Browne, Sontje Hansen and Sverre Nypan all making an impact already.

Defenders Alfie Jones and Callum Brittain - also signed in the summer - should have their contributions noted as well, with both playing string roles in Boro's defence.

That success rate for their summer business is hard to match by anyone else across the league, and although it's still early days, things look to be heading in the right direction for Middlesbrough.

Mehmeti strikes in Bristol City defeat

Bristol City were the victims of a shock 3-1 defeat at home to Oxford on Sunday, but one highlight from the Robins came through Anis Mehmeti's spectacular strike.

The midfielder fired in off the crossbar with a powerful effort from outside the area - the standout goal in a game with more than one top effort.

Oxford's Przemyslaw Placheta also netted a brilliant goal, rifling in from the edge of the box, but Mehmeti takes our Goal of the Week.

Windass sparks Wrexham win

Josh Windass continued his strong start to life as a Wrexham player with a brace in their 3-2 win over Norwich.

The Englishman netted twice in 12 minutes to help his side earn a valuable three points, scoring a 9.1 Flashscore player rating.

That was the highest across the Championship last weekend, making Windass our Player of the Week.
