AEK Larnaca’s unbeaten record in the UEFA Conference League (UECL) league phase remains intact following a 0-0 draw against Aberdeen at the AEK Arena - Georgios Karapatakis, leaving the Scottish outfit still searching for their first victory in this season’s competition.

The opening stages of the match were a drab, stale affair which saw no shots on target registered by either side inside the opening half an hour.

One of the very few moments of note was Aberdeen skipper Nicky Devlin coming within an eyelash of slicing the ball into his own net when under no real pressure.

The game finally woke from its slumber in the 31st minute, when Đorđe Ivanović forced Aberdeen goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov into an impressive save to tip the ball around the post.

With the interval on the horizon, the hosts came desperately close to taking the lead in spectacular fashion, as Hrvoje Miličević’s sublime 30 yard strike cannoned off the post.

Perhaps revived by that chance, the Cypriot side started the second half on the front foot, and had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock after 54 minutes, but Riad Bajić’s header from 12 yards out was steered narrowly over the bar.

Overall, the second half was littered with sloppy errors in the final third from both teams and saw a real lack of quality.

Another long-range attempt by Miličević in the 81st minute moved around in the air to cause Mitov problems, but the Bulgarian international was still able to parry the ball away and keep his clean sheet intact.

With the match petering out in the dying stages of the match, substitute Nicolas Milanovic missed an absolute sitter from Aberdeen from only 10 yards out.

Astonishingly, with the goal at his mercy, Karol Angielski missed an even easier chance for the hosts with virtually the last touch of the game.

As the final whistle was blown, Aberdeen failed to produce a single shot on target over the whole 90 minutes.

Despite AEK Larnaca’s 100 per cent winning record coming to an end, Imanol Idiakez’s side remain in the top three in the league phase, in what has already been a memorable European campaign for the Yellow-greens.

A point on the road for the Dons moves Aberdeen up to 32nd place, but there’s still a lot of hard work ahead for Jimmy Thelin’s side if they are to at least finish in the top 24.
