Barcelona have a massive mountain to climb if they are to turn around the 4-0 deficit from the first leg and make it to the final instead of Atletico Madrid.

Two of the top teams in Spain meet in the semifinals of the Copa del Rey as Barcelona tries to overcome Atletico Madrid after losing the first leg.

It was not just a loss for Barcelona but a demolition as they conceded four against Diego Simeone’s men. The task ahead of them is a big one, but back in front of their home crowd, anything is possible.

Atletico Madrid haven’t reached the Copa del Rey final since 2012/13, when they won, but this is the best opportunity the team has had since then.

Having won their last three matches leading to their trip to Catalonia, Atleti will know that only a monumental collapse will not see them through.

Barcelona team news

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski picked up an injury in the game against Villarreal on the weekend, with tests diagnosing it as a fracture of the left eye socket. He will miss the game in the cup. He joins Frenkie de Jong, Gavi and Andreas Christensen on the injury list for this game, with Eric Garcia also missing because of his red card in the first leg.

One player who did not feature in the first leg was Pedri, who has made substitute appearances in the last two Barcelona games. His return has come at a great time for the team, when they need to keep Real Madrid at bay in the league and turn around the deficit here.

Atletico Madrid team news

There is only one absentee for Atletico, with Pablo Barrios, who has been out since the start of February, still set to miss the semifinal as he is not yet training with the team.

The conundrum for Simeone may lie in team selection, especially in the forward line. In the first game, Antoine Griezmann started and scored, but hasn’t netted since, whereas Alexander Sorloth has five in his last three, with a hat trick in the Champions League in that run.

Where to watch on TV or live stream?

The second leg of the Copa del Rey will be shown on Premier Sports. To watch, you need to have a Premier Sports subscription, and then the match can be streamed online or on Sky.

Head-to-Head record

Atletico’s first-leg win was just their second from the last 11 competitive meetings between these sides (D1, L8). The other win in that run was in the 2024/25 season when they beat Barca 2-1 at the Camp Nou.

Despite the poor run, Barcelona need four goals even to get this tie level, and they haven’t defeated Atletico by at least four goals since 2011/12.

After losing to Atletico, Barca then went and lost to Girona in the league, which saw them give up top spot. They have won two in LaLiga after that and have regained their spot at the top, with both those games being at home as well.

Atletico have played two extra matches than their opponents since the first leg, and despite not winning the next two (D1, L1), they have won their last three and will be hoping to continue that run on Tuesday.
