Support a home win
We get straight to work on Wednesday, picking Newcastle United to beat Fulham in the match-winner market. It’s the most popular and simplest way to bet on football. Pick the team you expect to come out on top after 90 minutes, click their odds to add to your bet slip, input a stake, and confirm. Your wager is now live. If Newcastle win, you beat the bookies.
Extra time doesn’t count in the match-winner market, but we’re hoping that isn’t an issue. The home team are involved in a busy schedule, but understand the EFL Cup represents their best chance of claiming a trophy. Newcastle beat Tottenham 2-0 at this venue in the previous round, thanks to goals from Schar on 24 and Woltemade on 50 minutes.
Newcastle fans have already enjoyed some excellent performances and wins for their heroes at this venue. The Magpies did as expected when thrashing lowly Bradford here in the third round back in September. They led 2-0 at the break, before turning the screw in the second half. That was impressive, but the win and clean sheet over Spurs was even better.
Tip: Newcastle win @ 7/10 (bet365)
Bet explanation: If Newcastle beat Fulham, you beat the bookies.
Fulham fail to convince
We have selected Newcastle United to win and march into the semi-finals, but Fulham will put up a fight. The Cottagers arrive from London with reason to be confident. They proved themselves worthy favourites when making light work of Bristol City in the second round at Craven Cottage in August. An own-goal from Tanner inside eight minutes set the pace.
Fulham also enjoyed the home advantage in round three, but were made to work hard by a dogged Cambridge United. Pundits expected Fulham to beat Cambridge, and they did just that, but it wasn’t anywhere near as convincing as fans would’ve hoped. A single goal scored by Smith-Rowe with 66 minutes on the clock settled an anxious crowd of just over 16,000.
If Fulham fans thought that tight win over Cambridge United was testing, there was plenty more drama to come. The EPL side went to Wycombe Wanderers in the Last 16 near the end of October and were taken the distance. Wycombe scored first inside four minutes and held onto that lead until King levelled early in the second half. Fulham won 5-4 on penalties.
Tip: Both teams to score @ 3/4 (bet365)
Bet explanation: You need both Newcastle and Fulham to score at least one goal each.
Trust over 2.5 goals
Home advantage and form encouraged us to side with Newcastle United in the match-winner betting market for our first wager. Fulham scoring at least one goal in each of their previous EFL Cup games this season led us to a both teams to score pick. For our final of three Newcastle v Fulham predictions, we place our trust in the head-to-head stats.
Visit the Flashscore app and view the updated head-to-head on Newcastle v Fulham. You’ll see both teams scored in each of the previous three meetings. That run starts with a 3-1 home win for Fulham in September 2024, followed by a 2-1 victory at this venue in February of this year. In their most recent showdown, Newcastle beat Fulham 2-1 in October.
As you can see, a bet on over 2.5 goals would’ve landed you a profit in all three matches. It was also a smart approach in four of the previous six and five of eight. It’s also worth remembering that Newcastle started December with a 2-2 home draw with Spurs, before beating Burnley 2-1 here. Fulham recently lost 5-4 to Man City and 2-1 to Crystal Palace.
Tip: Over 2.5 goals @ 8/11 (bet365)
Bet explanation: The winning team isn’t important with this bet. You need Newcastle v Fulham to produce three or more goals from both clubs combined.
