Ajax talent Jorrel Hato is set to join Chelsea after a 'total agreement' was reached between the two sides, several reliable sources reported on Wednesday.
Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic's David Ornstein reported that Ajax and Chelsea have reached a total agreement for the left-footed defender, who will cost Chelsea €43 million (£37 million). Hato will sign a seven-year contract in London.
The Blues have been leading the chase for the Ajax wonderkid for some weeks, but negotiations between Chelsea and the Amsterdam giants took their time as the London side would not budge from their second bid of €41m, one million more than their opening bid.
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported on Tuesday that Ajax director Alex Kroes had lowered the demands in order to do right by Jorrel Hato, who preferred a move to west London and had already reached a personal agreement.
Ajax were now happy to accept a total package, with or without bonuses, amounting to €45m (£38.7m).
When Hato joins Chelsea, he'll become their eighth acquisition of the current transfer window and the third costing €40m or more.
Only Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro cost Chelsea more this summer.
Hato will also become Ajax's fifth most expensive sale in club history, tying with Mohamed Kudus at €43m.
The 19-year-old Hato played 111 games for Ajax, for whom he became the youngest player with 100 appearances last season.
