Robin van Persie is reportedly set to land the Feyenoord job after the Rotterdam side contacted sc Heerenveen, Dutch media report.

Several Dutch media, including the usually reliable Voetbal International and Leeuwarder Courant, reported Wednesday that Feyenoord are ready to land Van Persie effective immediately. Feyenoord have been without a manager since Danish boss Brian Priske got fired on February 10th and have qualified for the UEFA Champions League round of 16 after knocking out AC Milan.

Van Persie started his professional career at the 16-time Dutch champions in 2001 before moving to Arsenal in the summer of 2004. After playing for the Gunners, Manchester United, and Turkish giants Fenerbahce, Van Persie returned to Feyenoord in 2018. During his season and a half in Rotterdam, the Flying Dutchman scored 25 times and won the KNVB Cup.

After the Dutch top goalscorer of all time retired, Van Persie got into coaching, starting as the striker's coach in the senior team. After starting as an assistant at the club's U16 team - the team his son Shaqueel played in - Van Persie moved on to the U18s along with head coach Brian Pinas in the summer of 2023.

Eredivisie outfit sc Heerenveen then hired Van Persie one year later after the former striker impressed with Feyenoord U18 in the UEFA Youth League. With the Frisians, Van Persie is fighting for a spot in the play-offs for European football and is currently sitting in ninth place in the Eredivisie with 27 points after 23 games.

If Van Persie lands the job, the Premier League icon could potentially face former employers Arsenal in the Champions League round of 16.
