England manager Thomas Tuchel has signed a contract extension to remain in charge until 2028.

The German was officially appointed Three Lions boss on January 1st, 2025, signing an 18-month deal which would have taken him to the end of the 2026 World Cup.

"Thomas Tuchel has signed a new contract to lead England senior men through to UEFA Euro 2028 in the UK and Ireland," the FA confirmed in a statement.

"Having guided the unbeaten Three Lions in a record-breaking qualification for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States, Tuchel has agreed to stay on as head coach for an additional two years.

"Tuchel’s core support team - Anthony Barry, Henrique Hilário, Nico Mayer and James Melbourne - have also signed new contracts through to summer 2028."

Tuchel has enjoyed a successful tenure as manager so far, qualifying for the World Cup by winning every match without conceding a single goal.

He has lost just one match while in charge of England, a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Senegal in an international friendly.

“I am very happy and proud to extend my time with England," Tuchel said.

"It is no secret to anyone that I have loved every minute so far of working with my players and coaches, and I cannot wait to lead them to the World Cup.

"It is an incredible opportunity and we are going to do our very best to make the country proud.

“Euro 2028 will be a very special tournament, and as a coach, there is nothing more you want than to compete with the very best on the biggest possible stage.”

News of his extension comes on the day of the 2026/27 Nations League draw and will see Tuchel manage the Three Lions through to the end of Euro 2028 - which will be hosted in the UK and Ireland.

It is thought that any potential new deal is also a way to deter club interest, with Premier League sides like Manchester United and Tottenham linked to the German manager in recent weeks.
