Lionesses roar into the final

It has been anything but a simple path to the final for the England women's team, but the Lionesses remain in the running and enter the decisive match eager to upset the odds. They have been written off by traders working at all major sportsbooks, travelling to Basel as the betting underdogs. That's nothing new for Sarina Wiegman's troops, who have made a habit of ripping up the script at this tournament. Fans travelling to the Swiss capital hope to witness another upset by denying the Spanish.

England played their first three games at Euro 2025 in Group D, where they finished as runners-up behind France. A perfect three wins and nine points ensured Les Bleus won the pool at a canter, with Team England crossing the line as best of the rest. They won two and lost one, scoring 11 goals and conceding three, beating the Netherlands 4-0 and Wales 6-1. It wasn't what they'd planned, but it was obvious there was more to come.

We saw a glimpse of what they're capable of when England rallied to eliminate Sweden on penalties in the quarter-finals. The match ended 2-2 after 90 minutes and extra time, forcing the nations into a tense shootout. We saw an incredible seven penalties missed before England held their nerve to win 3-2. A 2-1 win over Italy in the semis secured their spot in the final, again needing extra time to get over the line. With a tense final expected, we stick with the trends.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals @ 19/20 (bet365)

Bet explanation: If the game produces fewer than three goals for both teams combined, you'll secure a profit.

Spain sneak past Italy

Spain found themselves in Euro 2025 Group B, which was dubbed the "group of death" this summer. The pool included Spain, Italy, Belgium and Portugal, making it anyone's guess which two nations would progress after three outings. In the end, the Spanish made a mockery of what had been hyped as a potential banana skin. Montserrat Tome's team played three games and won all of them, taking nine points, scoring 14 goals, and conceding only three.

Progressing as Group B winners ahead of runners-up Italy, Spain got down to business in the knockout stages. Looking the best team in the groups, The Red One turned their attention to the quarter-finals, where they beat the home nation 2-0 in Bern. Goals from Del Castillo on 66 minutes and a quick-fire second from Pina with 71 on the clock ensured a comfortable outing. Having beaten the hosts, Spain now plot to do the same to the defending champions.

We last saw Spain in action on Wednesday evening when they dispatched Germany in this week's second semi-final. It was another slugfest, which ended goalless after 90 minutes, meaning the rivals entered extra time. With the match heading for penalties, Spain struck the decisive goal thanks to Bonmati, who won it for her team in the 113th minute. Considering the form of both countries in the knockout rounds, we're picking a draw on Sunday.

Tip: Draw @ 29/10 (bet365)

Bet explanation: If the match ends level after 90 minutes, your bet wins.

Back Sunday's final to go the distance

Our third and final bet at St-Jacob Park in Basel on Sunday evening is England to win on penalties at a huge price. Yes, it's true: we'll need a rub of the green to get this wager home and hosed as a winner, but the odds make it worth a shot off a small stake.

The trading and marketing teams at online sportsbook bet365 have boosted the odds on several eye-catching markets, including England winning another penalty shootout. The standard price was 12/1, but you'll now get an excellent 14/1, thanks to the Bet Boost, and I feel that's just too good to miss.

Remember, England beat Sweden on penalties in Zurich, fighting back from 2-0 down. They also ended 1-1 with Italy at full-time on Tuesday in Geneva, with Agyemang netting with seconds remaining to rescue a draw. The Lionesses then won the match in extra time. The fact that Spain were held to a goalless draw by Germany on Wednesday in Zurich adds confidence to our pick. If these teams cancel each other out, we're happy to take our chances on the champions defending their prize from the spot.

Tip: England to win on penalties @ 14/1 (bet365)

Bet explanation: If Sunday's final goes to penalties and England win, you'll secure a profit with shouting about.
