The club is currently managed by former Arsenal and Man Utd striker Robin van Persie, who replaced interim manager Pascal Bosschaart in February. Bosschaart took over from Brian Priske, who was appointed Arne Slot's replacement last summer, but only managed a few months in the role before he was sacked.

Aston Villa won the last meeting against Young Boys, emerging victorious 3-0 in a Champions League league phase match at Stadion Wankdorf last season. Youri Tielemans struck first for the Villans side in the 27th minute. Jacob Ramsey and Amadou Onana also were on target.
