We have reached the final of the FIFA Club World Cup, with the UEFA Conference League winners taking on the UEFA Champions League winners, as Chelsea play PSG. 90 minutes is all that stands between one of these teams and a total prize haul of £90 million, and the moniker of best team in the world.

Chelsea were not the favourites to win or even reach the final; however, the Blues have made it here on the back of five wins and one loss, seeing off teams such as Fluminense, Palmeiras and Benfica in the knockouts. A win here would be monumental for Enzo Maresca’s team and cap off a successful season that has seen them claim silverware and make it back into the Champions League.

PSG have had an even more successful season, winning a quadruple that includes all French domestic titles and the Champions League. They have the same record as Chelsea, winning five of their six games, with the loss also coming in the second group game. The Parisians had a tougher route to the final but got there with relative ease, beating Inter Miami, Bayern Munich and then Real Madrid. Now they look to cap off their most successful season ever with the Club World Cup.

Chelsea team news

Enzo Maresca has one of the nicest problems to deal with as a manager: loads of players playing well. João Pedro announced his arrival at Chelsea with a brace in the semi-final against his old team, Fluminense. Chelsea’s other new striker, Liam Delap, was suspended for that tie and couldn’t play. Despite his strong performances in the Club World Cup so far, the explosive nature of João Pedro’s performance could mean the newer striker gets the nod in the final.

Outlets have been reporting that Noni Madueke will be an Arsenal player once the competition is finished, with a £52 million package seeing him trade West London for North London. He will be replaced in the squad by new signing Jaime Gittens; however, Gittens cannot feature for Chelsea until after the tournament because he already played in the Club World Cup for Borussia Dortmund.

The team only have a few injury concerns for the game against PSG. Midfielder Moisés Caicedo. picked up a knock against Fluminense, leaving Chelsea sweating over his fitness. Romeo Lavia has missed the last two games with a muscle injury, so if Caicedo cannot play, someone else will have to deputise in the midfield role, like Reece James, who has played there before. Despite these worries, Caicedo was seen in open training on Thursday morning, just over 72 hours before the final.

Chelsea predicted lineup vs PSG (4-2-3-1)

Coach: Enzo Maresca

Sanchez; Cucurella, Colwill, Chalobah, James; Fernandez, Caicedo; Neto, Palmer, Madueke; João Pedro.

PSG team news

PSG managed to come out of their match against Real Madrid unscathed, but will still be without the duo of Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernández, who were sent off against Bayern Munich. The two defenders were not missed against Madrid, with PSG keeping yet another clean sheet. In the tournament so far, they have only conceded one goal, compared to the 16 they have scored.

Ousmane Dembélé missed the whole of the group stage but returned for the knockout rounds. In limited time on the pitch, Dembélé netted in both the quarter and semi-finals, and he has a favourable record against English clubs this season, having scored against Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

PSG predicted lineup vs Chelsea (4-3-3)

Coach: Luis Enrique

Donnarumma, Mendes, Beraldo, Marquinos, Hakimi; Vitinha, Ruiz, Neves; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia.

Chelsea and PSG will meet for the first time since the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League. The two teams met in the last 16, with the French side winning 2-1 at home, before 2-1 away, to advance in the competition.

Before that match, Chelsea had only lost one game in the five meetings they had, winning two and drawing three.
