Match winner - Czech Rep

My first Czech Rep vs Ireland prediction is on the home team to win and progress to the final. Miroslav Koubek’s men finished as runners-up behind Croatia in qualifying Group L.

The Czech returned stats of five wins, one draw and two defeats, scoring 18 goals and conceding eight. Despite their form, the Czechs finished six points off the pace.

The locals bagged a total of 16 points, while Ireland collected only ten points, with nine of them coming in their last three games. ROI ended just three points behind a Portugal side that failed to hit top gear.

The Irish scored nine and conceded seven, suggesting the home team are likely to keep their World Cup dreams alive. Add the Czech Republic to your accas.

These nations have met eight times previously, with the Czech Republic winning four and drawing two. The hosts haven’t lost to the visitors in three games, a run stretching back almost 20 years.

Looking at recent form, Czech set up on the back of two wins, scoring seven goals and conceding none. I expect them to grind out an important victory.

Tip: Czech Rep win @ 10/11 (bet365)

Bet explanation: If the Czech Republic beat Ireland, you’ll secure a profit.

Totals - under 2.5 goals

My second suggested bet takes us into the total goals market, backing Thursday’s match to produce fewer than three goals.

With this approach, the winning team and scorers aren’t important. As long as the Czech Rep vs ROI ends with under three goals, you’ll bank a profit. Interestingly, a 1-0 home win pays the same as a 1-0 away win or a 1-1 draw.

Returning to the H2H we see that backing under 2.5 goals was a smart move in each of the last three meetings. In that time, we’ve seen a 1-0 win for the home team and a couple of 1-1 draws.

Koubek’s hopefuls have played six times this year, and under 2.5 goals was the correct call in four of those outings. A low-scoring and ugly home would do just fine.

Switching to Ireland’s most recent results, we see they beat Armenia 1-0 and Portugal 2-0, but both matches were played in Dublin.

In their previous two away games, ROI lost 1-0 in Portugal, before grinding out a stunning 3-2 win over Hungary. I expect a tense and nervy opening to this game, with neither side throwing caution to the wind. Back under 2.5 goals.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals @ 7/10 (bet365)

Bet explanation: You need Thursday’s match to end with fewer than three goals scored.

Correct score - Czech 1-0 Ireland

Regular readers of my articles know I often like to sign off with a third bet at higher odds. You’ll be delighted to learn I do the same here, shooting for a handsome profit in the correct score market.

We’re backing the Czech Republic to beat Ireland 1-0. If the locals need only one goal to win the match and progress, you’ll collect the profits at an attractive 11/2 price.

Did you know that the Czech Republic won 1-0 when last hosting Ireland? That match was played in 2007, with Marek Jankulovski scoring after 15 minutes. The fact that they have scored exactly one goal in each of their previous four meetings with Ireland adds confidence to our pick. Another 1-0 win would be a fantastic result.

The Czech Republic kept a clean sheet in four of their six matches this season, with 1-0 the result when beating San Marino here late last year in a friendly match.

Ireland’s most recent defeat came on the road in this competition when losing 1-0 at Portugal. Followers will need their share of luck here, but the stats and odds make 1-0 a bet worth following.

Tip: Czech 1-0 Ireland @11/2 (bet365)

Bet explanation: If this World Cup qualifier ends with the home team winning 1-0 after 90 minutes, your bet pays out.
