TV coverage: Who holds the broadcasting rights for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup?
A day before the official draw for the 2025 Club World Cup took place in Miami, DAZN were announced as the tournament’s exclusive broadcaster. The London-based entertainment platform kicked off their coverage by streaming the draw live, as Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero allocated all 32 teams into eight groups.
The deal was brokered after initial conversations with Apple TV broke down, with FIFA taking some time to secure a media partner. It’s believed DAZN paid an eye-watering $1bn (£771m) to secure broadcasting rights, despite not facing much competition from other providers. A significant portion of this sum has been siphoned into a seemingly ever-increasing prize pot, with current estimates suggesting a staggering $2.65bn (£2b) is up for grabs this summer.
DAZN will provide live coverage of all 63 upcoming Club World Cup fixtures, with registered account holders able to watch every group stage and knockout clash for free. It costs nothing to join DAZN, so football fans can tune into the action without having to stump up any cash. All matches will be shown on DAZN’s dedicated app, which can be downloaded onto smart TVs, smartphones, tablets, game consoles, and web browsers.
There are currently over 300m active DAZN account holders located across more than 200 territories, but this number is expected to skyrocket in the coming months. While registering for a basic account offers viewers the chance to track every minute of the Club World Cup, paying customers have access to a wide range of sporting coverage. DAZN hold broadcasting rights for a variety of prestigious leagues and competitions, enabling UK subscribers to watch events such as the UEFA Women’s Champions League, the National League (& National League North and South), LIV Golf, PDC Darts, and the Saudi Pro League.
As part of their broadcasting agreement with FIFA, DAZN are permitted to sub-licence coverage of the Club World Cup to local linear television stations. In the U.S., Warner Bros Discovery have secured the rights to broadcast 24 selected fixtures from this summer’s tournament after striking a deal with DAZN. Several channels belonging to the entertainment network – including TNT Sport, TBS, and truTV – will show live coverage of matches that are most appealing to American audiences. Therefore, MLS duo Inter Miami and Seattle Sounders and a handful of European big-hitters will feature prominently on Warner Bros Discovery channels.
Spanish-speaking U.S. residents may look to take advantage of DAZN’s sub-licensing deal with TelevisaUnivision, with the network’s three channels – Univision, UníMas, and TUDN – sharing coverage of 18 Club World Cup matches. South American viewers will be able to see how the tournament’s CONMEBOL competitors perform via their DirecTV subscriptions.
DAZN’s partnership with football’s global governing extends beyond the 2025 Club World Cup, with the streaming service poised to integrate FIFA+ into its entertainment portfolio. Offering subscribers the opportunity to re-live iconic moments and access full replays of classic encounters between some of the best teams in history, FIFA+ is an ideal platform for any footballing enthusiast. Providing this summer’s coverage is a success, we can expect DAZN to cover further FIFA events in the future.
