The FIFA Club World Cup groups are starting to take shape, and after Manchester City takes on Al Ain, every team will have played two games. Three more points for City would all see the boys in blue through dependent on other results in their group.
After winning the first game 2-0, City will be happy to see Phil Foden finding form again as the midfield maestro scored and assisted against Wydad. Al Ain had a torrid time against Italian giants Juventus, losing 5-0. Their task gets no easier now against Pep Guardiola’s side.
We look into the stats and study the odds to see if there are any savvy bets to be made on this Group G encounter.

Manchester City v Al Ain tips
- City to win and keep a clean sheet: 2/5 with bet365
- City to be winning at half-time and full-time: 1/3 with bet365
- Under 3.5 goals: 5/6 with bet365
City to win and won't concede
Anything other than a Manchester City win here would be a big upset. They have only lost once in their last 14 games, and that was the FA Cup Final to Crystal Palace. In that time, they have racked up 10 wins and three draws, including the win in the first round of the Club World Cup, which they did comfortably.
In their last two games, the Citizens have managed to keep two clean sheets as well, showing a return to the defensive stability we associate with them. After Al Ain were routed by Juventus, I can’t see anything other than a City win here and most likely a win to nil too.
Tip: Manchester City to win and keep a clean sheet @ 2/5 with bet365
Bet Explanation: This bet wins if City win and Al Ain do not score
Not as many goals as you would think
Whilst City should win this game, it is hard to see them winning by a big margin. Based on the stats, in the City’s last 10 victories, they have only scored more than two goals twice. It has not been a feature for them to score loads even when they are winning comfortably, as we saw against Wydad. City’s stats hint that they should’ve scored just under three goals in the game, and that’s what they did.
Looking at the stats from the Juventus-Al Ain game, the Bianconeri may have scored five goals, however, the stats show that they only had an xG of 1.40, and an xG of shots on target of 2.89. This shows that the score was a bit of an outlier, and they should not have been beaten so badly.
Overall, I think City will win, but not by that much. The more adventurous bet is under 2.5 goals at 12/5 with bet365, but the safer bet is under 3.5 goals at 5/6.
Tip: Under 3.5 goals @ 5/6 with bet365
Bet Explanation: This bet wins if there are three or fewer goals at full-time
It’s a game of two halves, and City win both
Judging that City are going to win, a good bet would be for them to be winning in both halves. Against Wydad, they were 2-0 up in the first half and then cruised to the result. In their last three matches, which have all been wins, City have done the same thing.
At 1/3 with bet365 and on the presumption that Manchester City do win, this also looks a safe bet.
Tip: Manchester City will win both halves @ 1/3 with bet365
Bet Explanation: This bet wins if Manchester City are winning at half-time and full-time.
