The FIFA Club World Cup is in the knockout phases as Manchester City take on Al Hilal in a last-16 match that will see only one team progress through to the quarter-finals.

City had a flawless record in the group stage, topping Group G with nine points and looking like their old selves in the final group game against Juventus. What should have been their toughest task ended up being a walk in the park as the Blues won 5-2. Now they come up against a fearless Al Hilal side that will believe they can cause an upset here.

Al Hilal finished second in their Group H, behind Real Madrid and ahead of Red Bull Salzburg and Pachuca. They are unbeaten as well in the competition, grabbing a draw against the two European teams before dispatching Pachuca 2-0 in the final group game and securing their progress. Their results so far will imbue the Saudi team with confidence and hope that they ride their momentum through to the quarter-finals.

Below we have all the info you need about the upcoming last-16 fixture.

Manchester City team news

City came through unscathed against Juventus but will still be without defender Rico Lewis after the young Englishman’s ban was extended to three games. Lewis was sent off against Wydad on game day one after what was deemed a dangerous follow-through on Samuel Obeng. Lewis’s ban was extended from two to three games, and that rules him out until the quarter-final stages, if City make it.

City will still be without Claudio Echeverri, who was ruled out for the rest of the tournament with an ankle injury. Echeverri scored his first goal for City with a sublime free kick against Al-Ain but was forced off at half-time with a twisted ankle. Pep Guardiola confirmed before the Juve tie that Echeverri will be out for “two or three weeks,” effectively ending his Club World Cup campaign.

Al Hilal team news

A 1-1 draw against Real Madrid and 0-0 against Red Bull Salzburg put Al Hilal in a prime position to qualify for the last-16 when they faced Pachuca. By progressing, they have become the only Asian side to reach the Club World Cup's knockout stages, and Simone Inzaghi says that his team have now established itself among the elite teams with their results and tournament progression.

They come into the last-16 with no injury worries or suspensions, meaning that Inzaghi's set 11, which has been unchanged the whole of the tournament, can be used again against City. The team boast the joint best defensive record of the group stage, shared with Paris Saint-Germain and Monterrey, and that will buoy the team as they face the last winners of the Club World Cup.

Head-to-Head record

Manchester City head into this tie having won all three of their games, scoring 11 goals and conceding only two. Al Hilal have two draws and one win, scoring three and conceding one. Now the two unbeaten records clash, where only one will prevail.

The two have never met in an official capacity, with the only meeting being a 1-0 win to Al Hilal in a club friendly back in 2012. A goal by Nawaf Al Abed was enough to win the game for the Saudi team, in what was City’s first outing after winning the 2011/12 Premier League title.

Odds for Manchester City v Al Hilal

Manchester City are strong favourites to win at bet365. The bookmakers have them down at 1/3 to win compared to Al Hilal at 13/2. A draw in normal time is at 9/2.
