PSG to win

The Parisians recently took home their maiden Champions League title in Germany, and will head to the United States in a buoyant mood. Their demolition of Inter Milan in the final will have every team wary of just what this outfit could do to them.

Madrid did beat PSG in the early rounds of this season's Champions League, yet the French side has exploded into life since the turn of the year and are arguably now everyone's favourites to win the whole thing.

PSG will want to add to their historic treble with an unprecedented quadruple this year, and I predict that the kings of European football will start their campaign strong.

There will be goals

The French Ligue 1 champions have won their last five games in all competitions, scoring 17 goals in the process. Over the season, PSG have scored 152 goals in 58 matches, a record only Barcelona have topped across clubs from the Top 5 European leagues (174 goals in 60 matches).

That record averages out as 2.62 goals per game for PSG, and Atlético Madrid are not far behind. With 109 goals in 54 games, they have an average of just over two goals per game and are on a scoring hot streak of their own, netting 12 goals in four games. This all could mean that we should expect goals from this fixture.

Whilst I say that, we have to acknowledge that between the sticks there are two of the best goalkeepers in the world, with Jan Oblak and Gianluigi Donnarumma, so scoring will not be as easy as the stats may suggest. Yet the attacking talent is there, and teams have found trying to stop PSG scoring one of the hardest tasks to do.

The first time these two met this year, the game finished 2-1 to Atlético Madrid in a smash-and-grab last-minute goal by Angel Correa. I see a similar scorline at a minimum here, but with PSG winning.

Atlético have scored a good few recently and have been trigger-happy in front of goal themselves, with their 12 goals in four games coming from 61 shots. However, in the last match between the two, PSG had 22 shots to their opponents' four.

I cannot see past a repeat of these sorts of stats for this game so PSG having over 15.5 shots at 4/5 looks an appealing punt.
