Instead, the coach pointed to a minor injury problem and the decision has been made not to risk the forward ahead of friendlies with Hungary, tomorrow, and Algeria on Tuesday.
When asked if the decision to leave camp was driven by transfer matters, the Dane said, "No. He felt a small injury and our medical team was already aware of it and we decided, together, to release him."
The 26-year-old's future has been the subject of much speculation for the majority of the 2024/25 season, with Arsenal said to be leading the race for his signature.
"I spoke to Viktor last week," Tomasson continued, "He hasn’t trained much in the last few weeks and was feeling some discomfort because of a small injury."
Despite that, Gyokeres still joined up with the squad after being called up, which Tomasson used to point to his dedication to the Blagult, "I was happy to see him and have him with us in this training camp. It says a lot about Viktor, how much he wants to get involved."
Gyokeres is the latest withdrawal from the Sweden squad, following fellow forwards Alexander Isak and Gustaf Nilsson also pulling out, while Anthony Elanga will not feature in the Algeria match.
With Dejan Kulusevski still recovering from surgery, the attacking options are limited for the Swedes ahead of their final matches before their World Cup qualification begins in September.
As replacements, Tomasson has brought Jordan Larsson and the uncapped Momodou Sonko into the squad.
