Great news for the Spanish national team and Barcelona as Gavi has been medically cleared and seems to have put behind him the injury that kept him out of 40 games for the Catalan giants.

Gavi is among those selected for Sunday’s clash against Sevilla and is making his first appearance in a squad in the past six and a half months. He returns after undergoing arthroscopic surgery at the end of September for an internal meniscus issue he suffered in August.

The Sevilla-born midfielder has only featured in the first two games of the current season, against Mallorca and Levante. Last Tuesday, he travelled with the team to Newcastle, but had not yet been given medical clearance.

His comeback comes at the most crucial point of the season, with Barcelona fighting for the La Liga and the Champions League titles, and the World Cup on the horizon for Spain.

Gavi, who came up through the Real Betis youth academy, already made one comeback against Sevilla before, on October 20th, 2024, after recovering from a complete anterior cruciate ligament tear and an external meniscus injury he suffered with the Spanish national team in November 2023. Hansi Flick gave him eight minutes on that occasion.
