LaLiga heads into matchday 28 with Real Madrid aiming to catch Barcelona in the race for the top spot, trailing their rivals by four points. Atlético and Villarreal are battling for third place, while Betis and Celta are fighting for fifth. Four teams are also trying to avoid the bottom two relegation spots: Alavés, Elche, Mallorca and a Levante side that seems to be joining the 'party' just in time.

LaLiga EA Sports heads into matchweek 28, right in the middle of the European competitions’ round of 16, and also the penultimate matchday of a March that will end with the international break and, hopefully, the Finalissima.

This weekend features home games for three of the top four teams, an Oviedo side that may be facing one of its last opportunities to breathe some life into their campaign, a chance for Mallorca to try and escape the drop zone, and a clash between Betis and Celta that could be decisive in the fight for fifth place, which might even end up being a Champions League spot. Here are our predictions for the round.

Alavés v Villarreal: Friday, 20:00 GMT

Alavés - Villarreal
Alavés - VillarrealFlashscore

The round kicks off with an intriguing match at Mendizorroza between an Alavés side struggling to find form and a Villarreal team fighting for third place, but who have lost four of their last six visits to the Glorioso (one win and one draw).

The Glorioso average more than a goal scored and conceded per home game (16 scored and 15 conceded in 13 home matches), while Villarreal, the third highest scorers in LaLiga EA Sports (50 goals), are also the third highest scorers away from home (19 in 13 games), but concede over 1.5 goals per away match (20 in 13).

Given these stats, and considering that six of Alavés’ last eight official matches and six of Villarreal’s last seven have seen both teams score, it seems a good bet to back both sides to find the net, something that’s happened in 12 of the last 14 meetings between them and in seven of Villarreal’s last nine trips to Mendizorroza.

Tip: Both teams to score - Odds 4/5 @ bet365

Bet Explanation: This bet wins if the match ends with at least one goal from each team.

Girona v Athletic Club: Saturday, 13:00 GMT

Girona - Athletic Club
Girona - Athletic ClubFlashscore

Montilivi hosts the first game on Saturday as Athletic come into town. The Catalans are playing well, despite last round’s draw at Levante, but their lack of efficiency at both ends prevents them from making the most of their quality.

Athletic Club are also in a tricky phase: they put up a fight against Barcelona, but have had mixed results, especially away from home, making tips difficult. This could be a good match for a double chance bet, but we recommend simply enjoying it as fans without placing any bets.

Tip: No bet

Atlético Madrid v Getafe: Saturday, 15:15 GMT

Atlético de Madrid - Getafe
Atlético de Madrid - GetafeFlashscore

Getafe, who showed at the Santiago Bernabéu how dangerous they can be away from home, visit Atlético, who have been strong at home in the league, making them the second-best home side in the competition (one win, one draw, and one defeat).

The Azulones are in good form and haven’t lost in their last four away games, but Simeone’s side have won five of the last six meetings between them, and have beaten Getafe in 14 of their last 16 visits to the rojiblanco’s stadium in official competitions (with two draws). With all this in mind, we expect Atlético Madrid to win, even though the match falls between their European fixtures against Spurs.

Tip: Atlético to win - 11/20 @ bet365

Bet Explanation: This bet wins if Atlético Madrid win.

Real Madrid v Elche: Saturday, 20:00 GMT

Real Madrid - Elche
Real Madrid - ElcheFlashscore

Real Madrid, with one eye on their tie against Manchester City, host an Elche side struggling in the league. Los Blancos are still missing players and aren’t at their most impressive, but are expected to overcome Sarabia’s men in this fixture.

Betting on the goal interval could be a good option, given the controversial 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture, and the fact that 10 of Elche’s last 12 official matches have seen between two and four goals, which is also true for 12 of Madrid’s last 17 home games in all competitions.

Ten of the 11 league meetings between these sides at any venue, and four of the five played at the Bernabéu, have also fallen within these numbers.

Tip: The match will have between two and four total goals - 4/7 @ bet365

Bet Explanation: This bet wins if the match ends with two, three or four goals in total, counting both teams’ goals.

Mallorca v Espanyol: Sunday, 13:00 GMT

Mallorca - Espanyol
Mallorca - EspanyolFlashscore

Demichelis’ Mallorca, who showed signs of improvement in Pamplona last time out, are looking to climb out of the relegation zone as Espanyol visit, a side who have picked up just four points from their last 33 and haven’t won in 2026.

The two goals scored by the Balearic side against Osasuna were both by Vedat Muriqi, who has found the net in seven of Mallorca’s last eight games at Son Moix, as well as in the last four meetings against Espanyol, including a brace in the defeat suffered in the reverse fixture (3-2).

For this reason, we expect him to contribute directly with a goal in this match as well.

Tip: Muriqi to score and/or assist - 11/10 @ bet365

Bet Explanation: This bet wins if Vedat Muriqi scores a goal and/or provides an assist during the match.

Barcelona v Sevilla: Sunday, 15:15 GMT

Barcelona - Sevilla
Barcelona - SevillaFlashscore

On presidential election day for the club, Barcelona host Sevilla with memories of the heavy defeat suffered in Seville in the reverse fixture (4-1).

The Catalans are the best home side in the league and have won every home game (13). They have won while scoring between two and four goals in their last 12 official home matches, and in 12 of their 13 home league games (the exception was the first, a 6-0 win over Valencia).

Tip: Barça to win, scoring between two and four goals - 4/6 @ bet365

Bet Explanation: This bet wins if Barça win and score between two and four goals in the match.

Real Sociedad v Osasuna: Sunday, 20:00 GMT

Real Sociedad - Osasuna
Real Sociedad - OsasunaFlashscore

Real Sociedad, who have improved under Matarazzo and are close to Europe, host Osasuna in a clash between northern teams.

The Basques have won four of their last five official games at Anoeta, the exception being a surprising draw against Oviedo, where the home side conceded the decisive goal in stoppage time. Lisci’s men haven’t scored in their last two away games, and lost 3-1 at home to Real Sociedad in the reverse fixture.

The teams also met at San Sebastián in the Copa del Rey last January, where Matarazzo’s side came back from 2-0 down to win on penalties.

That match was the only draw in the last five meetings between the sides, including official and friendly games, with the Basques winning the other four.

We expect Real Sociedad to make their home advantage count against one of the league’s worst travellers (2 wins, 3 draws and 9 defeats).

Tip: Real Sociedad to win - 10/11 @ bet365

Bet Explanation: This bet wins if Real Sociedad win.

Rayo Vallecano vs Levante: Monday, 20:00 GMT

Rayo Vallecano - Levante
Rayo Vallecano - LevanteFlashscore

Rayo Vallecano, unbeaten in five games, host a Levante side on the rise after picking up four of the last six points. Iñigo Pérez’s men remain favourites for the match, but the Valencians’ need suggests there will be plenty of action.

Rayo’s last 13 official matches have seen between two and four goals, as have four of Levante’s last six league games, and 11 of their 13 away league fixtures. The reverse fixture between the sides also saw similar numbers, with the Madrid side winning 3-0.

Tip: Between two and four goals in total - 8/15 @ bet365

Bet Explanation: This bet wins if the match ends with two, three or four total goals.
