Barcelona have provisionally moved seven points clear at the La Liga summit, following a 2-0 victory over CA Osasuna that halted the Pamplonan side’s winning run at just two matches.

Despite Osasuna employing an ultra-defensive back five, a super run from Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde almost set up Ferran Torres, and Marcus Rashford clearly felt he deserved a penalty, as the hosts began the more positive of the two teams.

That said, Osasuna had the best early chances, though Ante Budimir could only shoot straight at Joan Garcia from a few yards out.

He repeated the trick shortly after, with Pedri, Lamine Yamal and Eric Garcia testing visiting keeper Sergio Herrera at the other end with long-range efforts.

Ferran then looked to have finally given Barça the lead with a well-taken header, but somewhat contentiously, a VAR review ruled it out for an offside by the corner flag.

And there was further frustration for the Catalans just before half-time, when Ferran’s overhead kick dropped just the wrong side of the post.

However, they got even closer shortly after the break, when Herrera found himself at full stretch to keep out Rashford’s on-target free-kick at the start of the second half. From the resulting corner, Victor Munoz ran the length of the pitch before firing just wide.

The one-way traffic remained relentless past the hour mark despite Barcelona’s frustrations, and the pressure finally told with 20 minutes to play, as Raphinha’s thumping finish put the hosts ahead.

Barcelona’s dominance continued in the latter stages as Osasuna simply looked to hit their hosts on the break.

Lamine’s drive again brought the best out of an overworked Herrera, before an unmarked Raphinha tapped in at the far post to seal the win.

The result means that Barcelona have now won eight games in succession at home, uniquely doing so in three different stadiums - namely, Camp Nou, Estadi Lluis Companys and Estadi Johan Cruyff.

Osasuna, meanwhile, lost their first game in five matches (W2, D2), and are now level on points with Girona in the bottom three after the Blanquivermell’s win at Real Sociedad on Friday night.
