In a shocking update, The Athletic is reporting that Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has told Real Madrid he will not sign a new contract as long as his relationship with head coach Xabi Alonso remains strained.

With Vini Jr's contract running out in 2027, talks over a new contract have now stalled due to the Brazilian's strained relationship with Real Madrid's new boss, Alonso, according to The Athletic's reporter Mario Cortegana.

Xabi Alonso was hired in the summer and has overseen an encouraging start to the season, but relations with one of his star players appear to be at a breaking point.

The Athletic said in their report that: "The message was relayed in a conversation between Vinicius Jr and Madrid President Florentino Perez last month, according to three sources with close knowledge of the meeting."
